I only read the first section, but this is something that needs to be addressed. With all the bravado about player safety (targeting is the most flawed rule in football) it seems it would be really easy to put a rule in place requiring players who have an injury stopping the game to sit out for a quarter. Everyone knows teams are exploiting a loophole with fake injuries.

I agree Yotes. And also players that are really injured are often rushed back in.
So sitting out a quarter solves both issues.

Even staying out for that possession would be better than what we have now.

I would proposed that a player that causes a stoppage of play due to injury should remain out of play for a quarter's worth of play, but also the injured player's team is not able to sub for any player other than the injured player. Too many teams use this cheap, but currently legal tactic to slow down a quick tempo team and break momentum.

I like this quote from that article:
[TECHNICALLY there's no penalty for faking an injury. But it is addressed early on in the NCAA football rulebook. The act is labeled "unethical" and "dishonest, unsportsmanlike and contrary to the spirit of the rules."
"Such tactics cannot be tolerated among sportsmen of integrity," the rulebook says.]
Integrity.

SDSU's crampgate still pisses me off. At least we now have the 2019 victory as a little bit of redemption. The odd thing about the whole thing to me is the reactions of various Jacks fans. There was a wide spectrum of denial to acceptance to mild embarrassment to normalization, like "so what if they faked cramps?, everyone does it.". Similar to the post-truth times we live in. Even Zimmer's article on it was an embarrassment of dancing around the question, IMO. And I have some respect for him. .... and that should trigger the Jacks on shade patrol in 5....4....3...
