All - I am reaching out to the USD community for some help for former USD player Cody O'Neill. Recall Cody played for the Yotes from 2009 - 2013 - he was a heck of a good football player and is an even better young man. Cody is also married to my niece, Kelsey who is a USD alum as well. In short Cody is having some serious health issues and is requiring a heart transplant. He has a young daughter and another one on the way due in January. A Go Fund Me account has been set up on their behalf.
Seeing how the South Dakota community had supported my son, Chris over the years I know first hand that your loyalties run deep. If you can donate, it will be appreciated beyond measure. It is certainly understandable if you cannot support financially, times are difficult for many people these days, however a kind thought or prayer is also welcomed and appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your time and consideration -

The one awesome thing about USD is how they take care of one of their own..Cody was a great player and the Streveler’s mean a lot and will forever. Please consider giving to this cause. And pray your butts off.

11/18 -UPDATE
Go Fund Me has raised just shy of $60k. INCREDIBLE support from almost 500 separate donors. Thank you!! While I am not surprised, there have even been donations from NDSU and SDSU faithful. A true testament of character. Life is larger than sports.
Cody - as I type, is currently undergoing the transplant procedure. Again if you are so inclined, please pray for him and his family, the doctors, nurses, medical staffs and most importantly the individual who lost their life so Cody has a chance to live. That family is suffering while others get a second chance - please remember them as well.
Thank you again,
Erik Streveler

Quick update. Late yesterday, Cody made it thru the transplant surgery and from all accounts had a good night last night. So far so good. Very much appreciate the outreach and support from all of you. It means more than you know.
Thank you all so very much.

I have a friend in Florida that is 65. He had a heart transplant I believe 5 years ago and is doing very well. There’s nothing he can’t do. With Cody being so young my hope is that he’ll pull through this.
Continue with prayers for him and his family and also for the family of the individual that lost their life so Cody could live on. The USD fraternity is like none other. I’ve witnessed it several times.

Awesome news.
I continue to be amazed at modern science.
I'm sure some on this board remember a great Coyote supporter, Byron Bymers. Byron was an insurance agent in Vermillion who, I believe, had one of the first heart bypass surgeries in the state/country. My mind is fuzzy with the details at this moment. Byron passed away about 20 years ago now but I still think about him every now and then, especially when I'm out on the golf course. I'm sure him and his buddy Jere Chapman are playing a few rounds together in the sky. Chappy was a character too.
Anyways, didn't mean to thread drift like that but it's just amazing how far medicine has advanced.
