Barkley actually called out the NCAA for rules violations late one night this weekend when signing off. He called out the ongoing investigations and lack of penalties, and even said "we" as in the broadcasters "are in bed with the NCAA" and have to call it out and do better. Probably happened too late to get much social media traction. Assistants went to prison and not one program was charged with a meaningful penalty. No one even cares to talk about it. I'm with Chuck on this one. I'll just link to the wiki page for that "scandal" and let the complete lack of action by the NCAA speak for itself: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017%E2%80%9318_NCAA_Division_I_men%27s_basketball_corruption_scandal

My assumption is that Kansas has been seeking out Stan ever since he scored 28 on them and Coach Self said he was the best player on the floor. The possibility of charges or Self getting fired is real, but unlikely. Wouldn't be surprised to see Stan end up there.

Coach Lee is also buddies with Musselman at Arkansas so that might be another strong possibility as well. Maybe, just maybe if Stanley doesn't get the pro assessment he's hoping for he'd decide to come back to USD again. That'd work for me!

It seems to me that the transfer portal is at its best for people like David. He didn't win a high-minutes spot, so hopefully he can find a new home that is a good fit. Thank you David!

Not a surprise given the relationship between Todd Lee and their head coach

Not a surprise given the relationship between Todd Lee and their head coach In addition to Umude's old roommate at USD, Caleb Cline, now being a GA on Eric Musselman's staff at Arkansas.

Good luck to Stan and thankful for his 4 years as a Yote Seems like a pretty good fit for Stan. Mussleman runs an NBA-type program (how they prep and practice) so that makes sense for Stan. Hope to see him in the Final Four next year! (Maybe playing ORU again, since USD will be on the other side of the bracket...)

Would be nice if they would send us a player back. Makes perfect sense. I would think that the Lee/Musselman connection had a big part in Umude choosing Arkansas so maybe sometime in the near future it's not too far-fetched to think that connection could work in reverse.

Doesn't hurt that former Yote Caleb Cline is the Arkansas MBB grad assistant and was Stanley's roommate in Vermillion last year. In a year with no recruiting visits, those connections probably have an even greater value.

I find this thread odd. I also found the Mooney threads odd a few years back. We're competing for the same prize as these other schools, an NCAA Tournament Championship. I don't understand why we're okay with this stuff. I have no ill will towards the player, they can do what they want as is their right under the NCAA rules. But the talk about shipping players back and forth? We're basically conceding to being the farm club for the power programs. Would Gonzaga, Creighton, or Wichita State talk like this? No. Heck, neither would UNI or any of the Valley schools. This all coming on the heels of the ORU run in the tournament. That could have just as easily been USD. Look what sustained years of runs similar to that ORU run did for Gonzaga. Look at Loyal Chicago now.
If we didn't move up to D1 to compete for titles and be seen as peers to all the other state schools in the country then what was the point in moving up? We don't have the budget or resources to compete with P5 football programs, that's a completely different animal, but basketball can be done as has been proven over and over again by smaller schools making a name for themselves. Neither USD nor the Summit League should take a second tier mentality or be okay with being raided every transfer season.

Neither USD nor the Summit League should take a second tier mentality or be okay with being raided every transfer season. I love this attitude! Why should USD be a stepping stone for anybody? Of course I appreciate what Stan, Mooney, etc have done for USD, but I just can't say "thanks for the memories" and hope to see them excel for another program we are in competition with. I have never been in that position, so it's impossible to understand the mindset it takes to transfer out. I have to assume it's basically a "USD was great, but I can do better". If not, what is it? And for the record, I do hope Stan is happy at Arkansas and gets out of it whatever he is looking for, but I still feel burned. Obviously the transfer portal is different, but this reminds me of how I felt when Van Ginkel transferred out of the football program and ended up at Wisconsin. I kept seeing tons of "Congrats" and "Best of luck" posts and it made me sick. Even players that were on the team at the time showed up on here defending his decision to leave. My opinion, you're abandoning the people that got you where you are. Your teammates, the fans, the staff that took a chance on you. They're no longer good enough. We need to have the mentality as a program that we can go head to head with anybody in the country and have a shot. The women's team has that mentality. I hate seeing guys looking for greener grass somewhere else.
