People have to get out and enjoy the atmosphere before the game as well. Last week they had the 1st Yote Walk. I think this could really be a lot of fun but most people didn't know what to do and neither did the team. Be out in the tailgate area 2 hours prior to kickoff to welcome the team and cheer them on. The students had a great time when President Abbott and his wife came to the student tailgate area and that is when the students started getting fired up. There are schools that have a much worse football team than USD that get more fans. I know Vermillion is a little off the beaten path but lets support the students of our state. See you in Fargo Saturday!

I listened to Ed's comments last night at Coaches Corner and they were pointed, but not out of line. Best of all, they were all true.
The attendance there was once again back down to the 50-60 usual suspects and around 15-20 newbies. Why is that?
A win this weekend at NDSU means USD likely cracks the FCS top 10 and puts itself in great position for future recruting battles with NDSU. That is a huge deal.
An earlier poster errantly spouted their fingers off and said they thought it was a joke that USD went D-1. I will return the favor noting I think it's a joke how superior Bison fans truly think they are as a University. Yeah, your sports records are good, but you go to college to get an education first and play sports second. (that was not meant to invite positing NDSU mug shots etc...)
Can you imagine Coaches Corner next Monday night after beating the Bison and preparing for UND?
Do your part guys. Get your ass to a game and bring some friends. I took two buddies who had never been to a USD game to the NWOK State contest on Saturday and they had a blast. We hit Carey's, then tailgated, went to the game and these guys even bought USD t-shirts.
The Howling Pack continues to grow, but it can be much better. Bring friends to Coaches Corner, to Lunch with the U in Sioux Falls, to games, and get season tickets. Be an advocate of USD everywhere else.
Sure, I wear my USD gear everywhere and talk about athletics, but I also talk about the area where we have lately FLAT OUT OWNED NDSU, SDSU, UND, UNI, S. ILLINOIS, etc...in the classroom.
Whether it be Truman, Goldwater, Fulbright, or whatever the scholarly distinction, USD is on par with the Ivy League, Big 10 and Big 12 when it comes to our B-School as well as the number of scholarships and fellowships our graduates have received in the last 5 years across all facets of the education spectrum.
Our "peer" dakota schools can't say that. That isn't bragging gang, that is a fact. Be proud of that and SPREAD THE RED.

First off, if USD beats NDSU, they won't crack the top 10 yet considering NDSU isn't in the top 10. The Coyotes would then crack the top 20 I am sure.
USD does have great academic programs, some of the best in the Midwest, but to say it compares to the Ivy League might be a stretch. However the Big 12 and Big 10. Definitely not a stretch. USD's B-School with the new building and the new med school are rank up there with some big conference schools. That's for sure.

"First off" Mr. Admin, USD went from getting no votes to being ranked 25th and 24th in two national FCS polls. IMHO it is "likely" that fact alone could enable us to crack the top 10 with a victory in Fargo since NDSU is already ranked 18th and there are one loss teams ranked in the top 10 who lost to weaker teams than UCF.
Secondly, I am told you used to work for the Volante. That paper along with the Argus and several other papers all wrote stories discussing how USD stacked up to the institutions I referenced.
I agree with you as to the quality of the new facilities. They are top notch indeed.

I will not confirm or deny that I used to work for The Volante to remain confidental in who I really am. I would like that to remain anonymous unless I meet you in person.
Also, going from no votes to being in the top 25 came from beating Minnesota. However, James Madison knocks off an FBS Top 25 team and still isn't the number one team in the nation despite already being in the top 5. NDSU isn't ranked high enough for the Coyotes just to jump in the top 10 with a win. I would be more than shocked to see USD jump that far in just one week honestly.
Yes, I get there are teams with worse losses than UCF, but voting for the top 25 is a lot about politics honestly, plus those schools have more name recognition going than USD. It's kind of like the FBS polls as well to be honest. Why is Texas receiving first place votes? Because they are Texas. Why is Villanova the number one team? Because they are Villanova. I think they are number one last time I checked...Anyway, that's how it works.

All fair points.
So would you concede the top-15 if not the top-10? Having taken off my Coyote-Red tinged glasses I would think at least as high as 13 or 14 is entirely within the realm of possibility.
First things first, beat NDSU.

Yes, if USD does beat NDSU in Fargo, I do think they could jump as far at 13th at the highest. It would take a bit of help to jump that high, but I think that would be the max out point honestly. I can definitely see top 15 as a realistic possibility if they beat NDSU in Fargo.

There is only one poll I am interested in.............the last one.
Take care of business, and the polls will take care of themselves.

Ed's not a politician, he's a football coach. Sure I wish he wouldn't have called all the new people at coaches corner after the Minn game bandwagoners, but it is what it is ...
I'm not sure Ed is seeking a new job, but he certainly made plenty of references to the $million contracts both the UCF and Gophs coaches made - probably hoping to get a raise, but maybe he deserves one if the team keeps performing. I have no idea how his salary stacks up against fellow FCS coaches, but the only way to increase coaches salaries is to increase attendance and alumni giving. Our athletic budget isn't money that just falls out of trees.
I was completely happy with the student section last saturday. Thanks for the support and I hope you return for the rest of the games. It was great to see a packed student section. Sure they left at halftime, but that is understandable against NAIA, but not against UND, UNI Cal Poly and UNC.
Someone made mention of the clueless professor. I wasn't suprised by that comment at all. Let's face it, unless it is a business school professor none come to games. THe Bschool is very supportive, the rest of the U profs not so much.
for purposes of yotefan, I do remember articles calling USD the Harvard of the Prairie or Ivy of the Prairie or something like that.
As far a rankings go, since we can't make the playoffs yet all I really care about is that USD is rated higher than SDSU.
Sunday headlines in the Argus Coyotes Feast on Bison 32-24 - page 5 SDSU PUMMELED (or SPANKED) 57-0, or SDSU Football: ABANDON SHIP, front page

Guys, Only one thing builds support - WINNING.And it takes years of winning to do it, esp in FCS. Northern Iowa is a good example, so is NDSU. Just win and it will all come. You're well on your way, just keep it up.

Cap'n, is winning enough? Look at the squeeze the Iowa BOR is putting on athletics at UNI. They were talking about scrapping the football program. You guys are perennially a top program in FCS and yet even you have budget issues. I read that starting in 2013 UNI will play 2 payday games against FBS'ers a year. That will not help in attaining an at-large bid. You'll pretty much need to win the conference most years to get in.
I understand your situation is different having two in-state BCS schools, but Iowa also has a larger population.
Oh, and beat the SuckClowns this week.

Actually, FCS does look at who a team play each week, so playing two FBS schools doesn't put the team in peril with two losses. They will see who they played and that will be a factor. If it was a major issue, then Villanova wouldn't be the number one team with the only loss being to Temple. Then James Madison would be number one, which they should be, with the win over Va. Tech.

Also, Yote 53, I am going to have to ban you for one month for your SuckClowns reference....okay just kidding.
But I am a Cyclones fan so I don't know why you consider them the SuckClowns? yes, the program isn't the greatest, but come on now, that's the Iowa program you should be rooting for! Similar situation to USD basically.... Rooting for ISU is like rooting for USD....

OMG, USD and ISU are not close to a similar situation. ISU is so far behind Iowa it is not close while USd is just a couple years behind SDSU in transition and can actually lay claim to being ahead of the Jacks in the Amajor men's sports.
Yes, I am a Hawkeye fan and cannot figure out what you see in the Ketchup & Mustard. SuckClowns is an affectionate term Iowans have for the Clones.
