If I'm reading the schedule right, there are two rounds. The first round is on Saturday starting at 9 AM Japan time. Then the top 12 vaulters advance to the final, which is on Tuesday 8/3 at 7 PM Japan time.
It appears they are 14 hours ahead of us (I'm typing this at 8 AM and it's 10 PM there). That would put the final at 5 AM on 8/3 for us.

Thanks bud. Appreciate it. Wouldn’t it be amazing to have a Coyote dangle gold around their neck?

I see Chris is tied for 5th on oddsmakers rankings heading into the event.

In doing my reading this morning it seems there is a 21 year old representing Sweden (despite living their whole life in the US) that has taken the sport by storm and already set the world record. That preview was absolutely gushing about that guy. They don't just give you the medal for being the favorite though. Chris has a shot at gold.

He was competing for LSU in Chris's final year at USD and Chris beat him head to head more then once. Heard a story that year, have no idea if it's true or not, that he was looking into attending USD, but he wanted to bring his own coach with him. Coyote staff basically said, "no".

This article from goyotes.com has all the info about how to watch and when (already converted to CDT) Chris in the Olympics. Nilsen is a fantastic competitor and it seems like the bigger the stage the better he performs.

So he wanted to come here, but force out the alumnus who has built up the program? Sounds like he's missed the mat a few too many times.

On a more serious note, Chris has been consistently hitting 5.90 meters. If he can hit 6.0, he'll have a good shot at the medal stand.

Is it realistic to think Sam and Chris were not together the past week or so?

Hoping not. Coach Miles is on his way. Like goyotes said….the bigger the stage. Chris is a gamer

Chris cleared all 4 attempts tonight without a miss to qualify as one of the 14 finalists on Tuesday. Only one other athlete of the 14 cleared all their attempts! GREAT job Chris and best of luck on Tuesday!!!

I'm watching the pole vault finals now. I tuned in a half hour ago. Chris just went over 5.87 which seems pretty good to me I guess. The rest of the world should measure in feet...
