Last night the athletic department hosted the “summer version” of Calling All Coyotes. We were told it was record attendance and it sure appeared to be. I have no idea how much money was raised but there’s no doubt it had to be deemed as successful. If there’s times you don’t totally get why we support the schools athletic department and the student athletes that wear red, you would after last night.
We had (4) athletes speak to the crowd last night. Madison Jurgens the setter in volleyball. Chloe Lamb from women’s basketball. Jack Cochrane from football, and AJ Plitzuweit from men’s basketball. There’s a reason they were picked. They’re outstanding. Well spoken. And fantastic student athletes. They are not always gonna win every game or match, but if you think for one second these athletes aren’t a class act you need to get closer to the program. We were told 70% of our athletes have GPA’S of 3.0 or higher. Think about that.
Coach P, coach Nielsen, and AD Herbster did a great job of talking about the importance of our investment in these kids. The athletes talked of what it’s like to play in front of packed houses of raucous fans. It literally makes them perform at higher levels. Look at our facilities. No one at our level has better facilities. Huge investments financially have been made to put us at the top. Now it’s up to us as fans to fill the seats in the arena and Dome.
John Thayer was outstanding in moderating the program. He’s so very good at what he does.
I was so proud last night of so many people being so selfless and attempting to put USD in elite status. We are soooo close. Let’s all be a part of tipping the scales in our favor. Buy tickets, go to games and matches and take our program to the next level.
To the staff responsible for putting on last nights event…..congrats on a job well done.
