(PREVIEW ARTICLE)"The South Dakota Coyotes open the 2021 season with a three-game swing in Colorado, facing Northwestern, Colorado State and Northern Colorado. Friday's matches are at Noon against Northwestern in Greeley, Colorado and 8 p.m. at Colorado State. Saturday's match begins at 7 p.m. at Northern Colorado." Massey has us losing all three matches by a score of 1-3. I think we can do better.

NORTHWESTERN WILDCATS
Northwestern managed to play just 10 matches during the 2020-21 season, posting a 4-6 record. The Wildcats will be paced offensively by attackers Temi Thomas-Ailara and Abryanna Cannon. Both started all 10 matches and played in all 40 sets a season ago. Thomas-Ailara had 154 kills for 3.85 per set while Cannon contributed 97 kills for 2.43 per set. Both setters also return as Alex Rousseau had 260 assists (7.22 per set) and Kiara McNulty had 119 (6.61 per set). Megan Miller, the team's libero, is also back after posting a team-high 118 digs along with 11 service aces. Cannon had 16 kills and McNulty 49 assists in the previous meeting between Northwestern and South Dakota in the 2018 season opener in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Shane Davis begins his sixth season as head coach after spending 12 season as the men's volleyball coach at Loyola University.

Cancelled.
Just a guess….. COVID protocol? Assume the evening match vs CSU is still on.

CSU VB Twitter saying the COVID issue was with USD……crap. Was hoping our teams would have been vaccinated to avoid all this BS.

Update: I’m now hearing the Yote player with COVID was in fact vaccinated. This was a breakthrough case. Hard to really fault anyone with the freaking Delta variant running rampant.
Apparently our opponents could have played us but “did not feel comfortable” doing so and declined.
Sounds to me like the CSU Athletic Director threw us squarely under the bus with his comments. Either give all the details or none IMO. Don’t make it sound like our program is irresponsible.
This might be a long season…

At some point we are going to have to accept that this COVID thing isn't going away. Unless we, as a society, become OK with playing against 'close contacts' this will be sports for the next several years at least. Schedules might as well just be suggestions. Obviously, I wouldn't want somebody out there playing sick, but that goes for any illness. The vaccine doesn't stop the virus from spreading, so naturally there will be positive cases.

Worth noting: The NCAA and the RPI are considering cancellations due to Covid as "no contests". This means that although many conferences are calling those games/matches "forfeit" losses for one team for the purpose of conference regular season rankings, they will not negatively affect a team's RPI ranking.
Obviously this is cold comfort for the Yotes, who missed out on an opportunity this past weekend. Fresh start on Friday at Louisville, though.

The set back time hurts as well. We will be playing teams that have 2-3 matches under their belt. Oh well play through adversity
