I see one of our former coaching candidates just landed a Pac12 head coaching job at the University of Washington. I went back to read what everyone on the board was saying about him at the time his name came up for the USD job. I have to hand it to CoyoteFan, nobody was beating the DeBoer drum harder than him. He certainly had to fight off a few doubters. Coyote61 seemed to be on top of it as well, although much less vocal of course than CF. Good for Kalen. It's nice to see South Dakota boys like DeBoer and Heupel in power 5 jobs.

I remembered that as well. And I think there was some discussion regarding how stable it would be if he had success. I’m happy for him, but I think it’s fair to also say he would’ve been out of here quicker than The Jacks bus after THE CATCH.
There’s something to be said for building and maintaining a solid foundation. That’s no disc on Kalen just stating a fact. When coaches leave, recruits decommmit and now players go to the transfer portal. A top rated team can turn into trouble over night.

Yeah, he would be gone by now. He would probably have won a national title in his first few years and then left for a bigger job. That's the tough call at this level. You want to get good coaches of course, but if they are too good they will often be moving on. The trick is finding that really good coach who will be happy with where they are at. Normally that is going to be an older coach. You just hope if you do go with the older coach they are still as hungry as the young up and comer, just more content with where they are at.

You guys think Bob would still be around if success was around every corner after being here a few years? I would say no. It seemed like after his second season that he might jump to Kent State.

Wasn't DeBoer the offensive coordinator at Indiana at the time of our opening and would have had to take a huge pay cut to come here? Something in the range of $700,000 down to $250,000? Could be wrong about the timeline and he was still at USF.

DeBoer was the offensive coordinator at Southern Illinois from 2010 to 2013 under Dale Lennon. He held the same position at Eastern Michigan University from 2014 to 2016 under Chris Creighton, at Fresno State from 2017 to 2018 under Jeff Tedford, and most recently at Indiana under Tom Allen in 2019. He was head coach at Fresno State in 2020 & 2021.

A starting salary of $3.1 million a year for a Milbank boy is pretty damn impressive. Congrats to Kalen and his family.

So raise your hand if you thought DeBoer was a bad choice for the Coyotes when Nielson was hired.

So raise your hand if you thought DeBoer was a bad choice for the Coyotes when Nielson was hired. Slow your roll, I see you posted this too: Heupel barely has OC experience let alone head coaching experience. He is just not very proven and frankly I don't really see an upside with him either.
(Honestly, reading old taeks is kind of fun...)

It would be awesome if DeBoer can have success with Lincoln Kienholz from Pierre. Would make a neat human interest story for College GameDay or something like that.
