As a selfish Coyote fan, I'm saddened to hear of Coach P's departure from South Dakota to West Virginia, but as a fan of the human spirit and personal growth, I couldn't be happier for Dawn and her family.
Let's put some things into perspective for a moment.
Since 1998, the South Dakota women's basketball program has had TREMEMDOUS success and four of the best coaches we could ever dream of.
1998-2008 Chad Lavin with record of 191-107 .641
***Also coached 1982-1986 with record of 82-32 .719
2008-2012 Ryun Williams with record of 76-47 .618 (On to Colorado State)
2012-2016 Amy Williams with record of 96-44 .686 (On to Nebraska)
2016-2022 Dawn Plitzuweit with record of 158-36 .814 (On to West Virginia)
In those 24 seasons with these four mentors, the Coyote women's program has amassed a record of 521-234 .690. INCREDIBLE numbers over a difficult stretch which included transitioning from Division 2 to Division 1, not having the luxury of a strong and stable conference (no disrespect to the Great West), etc.
We all know it's tough to lose such amazing leaders of this program, this is a GREAT job and I know our leadership will find the right person AGAIN!!!
