How did the Zoom Call with Coach Nielson go last night? I wasn't able to get on it, any insight would be great.

It would have been even better if all HP members had this opportunity.

It would have been even better if all HP members had this opportunity. The ZOOM call is a result of the efforts of the Coyote Brotherhood. The Coyote Brotherhood is comprised of former players and coaches. The CB is an entity that is growing by leaps and bounds both in numbers and financial giving. The CB took on the pledge to pay for the locker room on the west side when the DakotaDome did its renovation. The pledge amount was $350,000 to be raised over 6 years. It’s very possible it could be paid off this year, but most likely by 2023, which would be year #4. Once the pledge is paid it’s my best guess is this group of men will fund whatever’s asked if them to enhance our football program. Because of the formation and direct ties the guy that heads it up asked Coach Nielsen if the “Brotherhood” could participate on a ZOOM call twice a year, a commitment Coach has honored and made. This is NOT a ploy to keep others out, but rather put value to former players and coaches that have the closest sentimental reasons to stay engaged. The group has done many wonderful things, not only for football, but all athletics. An example was members of this group paid for Championship rings for womens basketball the year they went undefeated in conference play. Raised money for Sarah Hill, the wife of Weber State coach Jay Hill who had a major battle with cancer. Some of the non financial things they’ve done is led an effort twice to find kidney donors for former USD athletes that were in dire need of a transplant. And they were successful both times in finding that donor. I’m aware of a number of men and women graduates that played for the Coyotes that have been aided in job searches, or continuation of professional schools. I swear to you this ZOOM call is not to keep out or shun our fans, but rather add value to a group that does so much for USD. The group is growing, and if done right, in just a few years will be a formidable group that can do even more significant things for Coyote athletics, and football for sure. Maybe if enough fans requested it, it might be possible to have a similar type call with Coach Nielsen.

How did the Zoom Call with Coach Nielson go last night? I wasn't able to get on it, any insight would be great. Coach Nielsen did a great job. He literally talked in depth about every position group, starting with the defense and ending with the QB spot. In addition to that he talked about the tough start to the schedule, NIL, and his thoughts on the transfer portal. It lasted maybe 30 minutes and no more. I will say my take on it was his level of confidence what this team can be, and what they can achieve, is the highest since he’s come to Vermillion. He felt strongly we addressed some of our needs through the portal. He also talked about the level of his assistant coaches. Coaches that have remained and new faces on staff. Optimism within the locker room is high. If you think about it, had we beat NDSU last year in the last game, we would’ve been co-champs. We’re making significant progress and I think Bob acknowledged that last night.

Sounded like we got a couple transfers at DT position, and the secondary has finally got some real depth. OL sounded like it was pretty well already set, with one spot up for grabs. Some good competition at QB too. RB stable still strong after Thomas injury. WR group young, but hopefully after Bell someone else emerges.
