From the Tulsa World Herald
Bixby’s bid to host the 2013-14 Summit League basketball championships was defeated Tuesday.
Summit League presidents voted in Chicago to play the postseason tournament in Sioux Falls, S.D., for an additional two years.
The Bixby Metro Chamber of Commerce was a finalist for the tournament, which would have been played at the SpiritBank Events Center.
Lisa Navrkal, president and CEO of the Bixby Metro Chamber, said she was notified in a phone message from Summit League commissioner Tom Douple.
“We put in the best bid that we could,” Navrkal said. “We’re disappointed that we didn’t get it, but will try again for 2015-16.”

By 2015/2016 I expect that tournament will be in Omaha and unless Sioux Falls gets their act together and gets a new arena built in will be in Omaha permanently.

I doubt Omaha can match the financial and attendance details that Sioux Falls puts up front. If it is moved to spread the "home court" advantage it will go to Tulsa or Oakland or somewhere away from the I-29 corrider. The fact that it is coming back for two more years against a strong Tulsa bid indicates the bottom line of attendance and sponsorship is the most important. And both of those will be even better when USD is eligible to play.

If UNO has some success in the Summit in future years, you can bet that Omaha will have the financial and attendance backing of Omaha. Add that to accessability, central loaction, and the Qwest Center and Omaha becomes a strong contender for the Summit bid.

Add that to accessability, central loaction, and the Qwest Center and Omaha becomes a strong contender for the Summit bid. You may be correct but things will have to change an awful lot for them. I looked at their attendance for 6 or 7 of their home men's basketball conference games and the highest was under 500. And they had a good team last year. Further for both SDSU and USD, attendance went down rather than up the first few years of division I. So they have a long ways to go before they can equal attendance in Sioux Falls and Sioux Falls has able to muster more corporate dollars than Tulsa, a city larger than Omaha because of the strong fan base for SDSU upto now and in the future strong fan base for USD>

As things get closer we'll have to spread the word about tournament pass tickets. Sayler said at the golf outing that the Summit is considering telling fans if they get tournament passes this year they could guarantee that same seat the following year. That benefits SDSU and hurts USD. I think he hopes they don't do that, but if it happens we'll need to convince a lot of Yotes to buy seats this year even though the Yotes can't play in the tournament this year.
Although, we should have more Yotes buy tickets anyway. We need to support the tournament in SF so it stays here.
This is great news the tournament is extended two more years. There are some in the conference, Oakland especially, that do not want it in SF.
If I hear any follow up on this I'll pass it along.
