Home Stand.
Coyotes need to play smart (no big first plays for their O, no dumb penalties, creative play calling, to name a few things).
Play Mad.
All the Yotes know they can play better and more consistently. They just need to prove it.
Go Yotes!!!

After some reflecting yesterday, I'm ready to start thinking about Cal Poly. I'm going to consider this a "get right" week. For the first time this season, I feel like this is a team we should beat handily. You obviously can't look past any opponent, but I'm hoping this is an opportunity to get everybody feeling good about things. After rewatching the Montana game, we're closer than I initially thought. If Camp get back to the level he was playing at last season, we could be a pretty good ball team.

This is a must win game. I don’t know anything about Cal Poly, so I’ll stay out of the technical items. But for team morale a win is necessary going into the brutal slate that is The Valley. Just gotta adapt to the game and find a way.
My keys to the game (while doing absolutely no research to support them):
USD - must score a minimum of 14 points by halftime and total of 21 to win - must limit scoring opportunities for cal poly and shut them out in the first half. - limit their passing yards to below 150, and keep rushing yards contained to below 100

Offense must play complimentary football. The defense is good enough, but can’t be on field 40 minutes.

Not exactly. Last season, I believe the defense was helped immensely by the offense being able to run the ball better, control more clock, and keep the defense off the field so they’re not gassed by the 4th quarter. They haven’t been able to duplicate it yet this year. We remember that the NAZ & Cal Poly games were fireworks shows, but don’t forget the UND game or discount the passing game being aided by gaining positive yardage on 1st down running the ball.
Or am I misremembering last year?

I give Coach Nielson a lot of credit for announcing that he will be assuming the offensive play calling duties starting this weekend! He knows that the offense must improve and is taking the Truman approach that "the buck stops here". It is a clear signal to the entire team that everyone is accountable for their performance!
A refreshing change from what we're seeing in politics!

I'm already giddy about tomorrow. After being at the vball game against Louisville, I'm holding out some hope that there's a new enthusiasm about Coyote athletics among the students. To be back in the dome, at the tailgate, at Leo's... Can we just hurry up and get to tomorrow?

Took a peak at the Cal Poly board. They're putting a lot of emphasis on their game against Montana last year vs how we played them last week. If we want to look at last year's games, I can think of one that should be brought up......

At this level you can't take one year or one week to the next and try to compare games. Teams are too good and athletes are to talented. Pretty simple equation for the Yotes. Get after their QB and knock him around or be close every time he throws plus get a few Ints. Get your explosive playmakers the ball in space or on the run and let them do their thing. Can't continue to miss layup throws and game changing opportunities over and over again like we did last week. And by all means, protect our QB so he doesn't get the yips again. Simple.

I just find it humorous that they are using a common opponent from different seasons as a source of optimism when there's a head to head game from last year you could easily look at. I will be disappointed by anything less than a thorough ass kicking.
