That first quarter was just what the doctor ordered for our offensive woes. Didn't like how we sputtered past the 50 a couple times in the 2nd quarter. The offensive PI that erased a TD looked iffy on TV. Seemed like the defender knew he was beat and tried to sell any perceived contact.
Defense has been mostly solid. Their one score looked like a sure INT in the endzone but the defender wasn't strong enough with the ball.
Step in the right direction so far. Hope we can lay it on and win by a bit more than the current 14 point lead.

Absolutely putrid call on the "illegal blindside block". Derailed a promising possession off an INT and forced a punt. I don't watch the TV broadcast often, but even Jay Elsen called it a terrible call. Simple pick by Galbreath on the corner. Defender didn't even hit the ground. I think it's a dumb penalty to begin with (you are on the field, anyone can light you up anytime), but our guy seemed to respect that he could hurt the defender and let him off easy then got a nonsensical penalty anyways.

Sure enough, another promising drive gets past the 50 and sputters. That's at least 3 on the day. Don't like that at all. Great punt and coverage to pin them at the 1 though.
Galbreath seems to be taking a big step forward today. I've been hoping he would help us out at TE.

I’m certainly digging the score to this point but the way our pass D and O line are playing I shudder to see NDSU next week.

Tackling is terrible.
Cal Poly is not a good team. We're going to get murdered by NDSU.

Nice drive to get to 35 and probably put this game out of reach.
Viewing this game through the prism of how we're going to need to perform to beat NDSU and SDSU and this just isn't going to be good enough. Too many missed tackles, too many yards given up, too many big plays given up. Offensively the performance has been much better but still need to clean up some things. Too many sacks given up. Need to control the LOS more.

A win beats the alternative, but this has not been any fun since the quick start to the game. A good MVFC team wins this game by at least 5 TDs (probably more). Soooo much that needs to be cleaned up. This team seems to have taken a huge step backwards from last year.

I wrote that post and the defense giving up a TD in a 20 second drive immediately kind of proves the point I was trying to make.
We won't beat many Valley teams playing the way we did today.

Feels good to win, but overall this was a disappointing showing. Should have been over in the first half but we let them hang around.

Agree with previous comments. Less than stellar performance. Got worked over in trenches. I just don’t get why we’re always overmatched. First TD was pure luck. Hillis didn’t play in 2nd half. Had them 3rd & long several times and couldn’t get off field. Bison will destroy us next week if we play like that.

Agree with all of that 100%. Missed tackles, explosive plays given up to that inept offense, as well as the inability or lack of not even trying to get the ball to Bell 3 weeks in a row concerns the heck out of me. Last time I looked Bell was an all-MVFC pick for a reason and our leading WR. The long 4th quarter TD pass to #15 was only because Camp missed that same RPO read twice to Bell prior and never threw it and I’m sure he heard about it on the sideline. WE WILL NOT be able to run the ball vs NDSU with any consistency, so where is the offensive production going to come from? As I’ve said before, get the ball in the hands of the guys that can change the game.
Nice to see our RBs earn some yards for sure and get a few explosive plays, but our next three opponents ain’t letting that happen for sure. Nice to see our defensive front 7 get some pressure and sacks. Now it’s on to NDSU and hopefully a major upset.

I think Cal Poly is much better than the team we rolled last year. Our inability to finish drives is irritating, but today was a step in the right direction. I also suspect we have some wrinkles up our sleeve for NDSU. If that will be enough is a conversation for another thread. One bigger concern for me is that every obvious passing down that I chose to watch Alex Jensen, he seemed to really struggle with the speed rush. Hopefully, that was just bad timing.
As for the defense, we need to tighten up and avoid injuries. Cal Poly moved the ball way too easily. Myles Harden won't bail us out every game.

If you predicted:
10-16-15 The Coyotes who were 2-10 in 2014 and headed to the Fargo Dome where the Bison had a 26 game home win streak and some guy named Carson Wentz at QB (and still an NFL starting QB). Would you have picked the Yotes to win? If you did you were right! Very few picked the Yotes but the Coyote FB team BELIEVED they could win and they did 24-21 on a last second Miles Bernger FG!
9-17-22 The Coyotes would score 38 points against Cal Poly after only scoring 7 points in their last 2 games you would have been right! The Yotes offense BELIEVED they could play better than the last two games and they did!
9-17-22 If you believed like I did that Cal Poly wouldn't have a chance after the Coyotes scored 21 points in the first Q and CP's starting QB was injured you would have been right, but CP never gave up and their backup QB is pretty good. He had been at Cal for 2 years and transferred to CP. They made it interesting!
9-17-22 If you believed that Arizona (who was 1-11 in 2021 including a loss to FCS Northern Arizona) would lose to the Bison who had beaten their last 6 FBS opponents, won numerous national championships, etc you would have been wrong! AZ and their fans BELIEVED they could win and they played for all 60 minutes and did!
Obviously predicting outcomes based on history, streaks, trends, etc is usually logical and is fun but it doesn't always work out! And we can all think of MANY other examples!
Like someone once said "That's why they play the game!"
The Coyotes need to BELIEVE they can win (just like the 2015 team), clean up some things, play 60 minutes and leave it all on the field!!
AND Coyote fans need to bring some friends to the game to CHEER THEM ON (and not just on 3rd or 4th down)!!!
GO YOTES!!!

No one outside of SE South Dakota will give the Coyotes a chance. I believe differently. It’s so damn easy to use comparisons but there’s one thing you have no clue how to measure is HEART. Do the Coyotes have heart? Gonna find out Saturday. Great post.

Giving up over 550 yards of offense to Cal Poly is concerning. I am not sure if this has been mentioned in previous threads, but Cal Poly's coach is Beau Baldwin (Eastern Washington HC '08-'16). Coach Nielson was talking about how much more improved that team is from a year ago. Cal Poly has been a dumpster fire in the Big Sky, but maybe we're looking at a mid to upper tier Big Sky program by the end of the year. We needed this win bad.
