Meet the Tommies (from their pre-game article): #16 Emma Goerger, 6-4 MBOn Thursday, the Tommies took set three against the Pioneers to avoid a sweep (19-25, 21-25, 25-21, 14-25). St. Thomas and Denver battled back-and-forth in the third set as freshman Emma Goerger added eight of her team-high 13 kills in the game. - Led the Tommies with 28 kills and 15 blocks, including a career-high 10 blocks at Omaha. Nine came as assisted blocks while she was one kill away from her first career double-double. - Tallied a .273 hitting percentage with 2.80 kills per set. - Ranks seventh in the league with 1.03 blocks per set #9 Lauren Galvin, 5-10 OHSophomore Lauren Galvin reached the 500-kill mark of her career during the second set Saturday at Omaha. Needing six to reach the milestone, Galvin tied for the team-high with nine kills. Galvin finished with 23 kills and 20 digs through the week... - Ranks 11th in the league with 2.97 kills per set. #22 Allie Kopp, 5-7 S

Interesting that most of the "impact players" for the Tommies are underclassmen. Goerger looks like a pretty impressive addition from the MSP powerhouse Wayzata High School. Young team, and I think next year they start to move up the standings. Gotta crawl before you can walk, though. They need one or two more D-1 recruiting cycles. They took a set from Denver, but Denver wasn't playing a couple of their best players in that match. I think the Denver coach was using that match to try some different things roster-wise.
Of course, our girls won't look past this weekend like lazy fans like me will...

Meet the Yotes: (the pregame article finally came out...) Elizabeth Juhnke, 6-0 OH South Dakota (14-2, 3-1 Summit) returns junior all-American outside hitter Elizabeth Juhnke, who currently leads the NCAA with 346 kills. The five-time Summit League Performer of the Week recorded a league record 39 kills in South Dakota's five-set match against NDSU last week. The 39 kills set a USD program record and set the mark for most kills in a match in the NCAA this season. Madison Harms, 6-3 MB Middle blocker Madison Harms recorded a career-high 12 blocks in USD's 3-1 win over Denver on Sept. 24, which tied the four-set program record. Lolo Weideman, 5-7 DS/L fifth-year defensive specialist Lolo Weideman hit a career-mark in the Denver match, totaling 34 digs and matching the four-set program record. Her 4.48 digs per set leads the league. Brooklyn Schram, 5-11 S Brooklyn Schram's 682 total assists lead the league and ranks sixth in the NCAA.
