Good morning Coyote Faithful. As we can see from the Power 5 as well as some MVFC schools, the NIL component of college athletics is here to stay and is a big key in recruiting. Has our foundation and/or Howling Pack board considered setting up a NIL Collective and start a campaign to fund that? As much as we may not like the idea of NIL and/or paying student athletes, it is what it is. There are a lot of smarter people than I when it comes to setting one of these up, but I would be more than happy to be involved in the fundraising portion. Maybe we have already started this in the background and if so, we need it out in the open to start the fundraising.

I agree, we definitely need to do something or be left behind. I'd certainly be willing to donate but have no idea in how to go about setting this up.

Plenty of programs have established the blueprint. I'd contribute.

Does anyone know how well we're doing with the NIL? I see links on the GoYotes site, just curious.
Also, regarding marketing I know there are professional sporting events that utilize an in-game 50/50 raffle for fans. It seems like a natural fit, for pre-game advertising, in-game scoreboard of how the pot is building, and a win for a lucky fan, and the program. I believe there are college programs that use the same. Is that being done at USD? I'm sorry I only get to a select few games in Vermillion. And also, I didn't go to Law school, so I'm not sure of the legality, just a thought.

Pretty sure I saw something about it this past Saturday. They had it going when I went to a game in Fargo in 2017 too.

They still do. I remember seeing something about how the pot rolled over and it was a pretty big pot available for the USD game.
Google machine says that raffles are legal in SoDak but you have to be a non-profit or charity.

The Bison have their collective up and running and are taking some credit for keeping some of their football players out of the portal. SDSU just announced their collective. Like it or not, USD needs to get their collective setup. Per Schemmel's comments in his press conference, he is very aware of the need to do so.

I had emailed the foundation prior to my original post in November. I completely understand if the USDF has other priorities, but we still need their help with donor lists, prospects, etc. to jump start the process. If the xDSU's announced them recently that means they have been working on them and once again, we are behind.

I doubt you’ll see the foundation involved in any capacity. NIL money is not deductible to the donor ( as I understand the tax code )
Schemmel made it known that the formation of a collective or a plan of sorts is on his short list.

Quick question - do we need to wait for someone in the athletic department, or do a group of folks (us) just get it started and pitch in a few dollars to get it rolling?

Although I can’t answer that for sure, I would think it has to be setup and aligned with the university’s vision.
Our new AD addressed it in meet and greet meetings and will start the process very soon I’m sure.
For what it’s worth, USD has “full cost of attendance” and starting next summer and off season summer meal plan. That’s more than most teams offer. NIL is the sexy headliner stuff but it all adds up

Pretty sure anyone can start an NIL collective. Nebraska had at least 2 going for a while. Makes most sense to be united under one though, and for that one to be well connected with the athletic department and coaching staff. If the NIL collective is going to be throwing money at incoming recruits the coaches have to tell them who and the asking price.

I have not seen this anywhere on this board yet. I have been receiving emails from our NIL collective, as I am sure many of you have. Here is the website. www.prideofthewesternplain.com/

I realize the NIL store is different than the NIL collective... but this twitter post blew my mind:
South Dakota has three of the top-10 female athlete earners for September! Awesome stuff.
