Lady Yotes have another very tough test against Fordham who is 3-2 and currently playing Washington in Vegas. One of their losses was to #17 Maryland by 7.
Keep battling Coyotes!!!

Fordham lost to Washington by 9 yesterday in the tournament. Washington is 5-0 but hasn't had a tough schedule so far.
Go Lady Yotes!!!

I’m getting a little nervous for conference play, not to have knee jerk reaction to a loss but these aren’t teams we should be losing to….. of our 2 D1 wins those teams are a combined 3-10. I knew we were taking a step back this year but I didn’t realize we were taking THAT big of a step back.

I think you’d have to be willfully ignorant to not be worried about conference play. They’re going to struggle with UND and NDSU playing like that, never mind being anywhere close to you know who.

This will be a building year no doubt. Given the fact that 40% of the starting lineup is out for the season (Bergstrom and Grange*) it's important to support and attend as many games as possible. These players deserve that and not fair-weather fans.
*My preseason intel was that the freshman Bergstrom was going to start at the point and I'm assuming Grange tore her ACL although I hope not.

Their opponents this weekend ARE pretty good. Santa Clara gave Washington their first loss today by 13. Fordham's top six are all seniors with a ton of experience. I would imagine both of those teams will finish rather high in their conferences.
That said, the Yotes have a lot of work to do. Losing Grange doesn't help. Development is key for next year, but part of that development is figuring how to win this year. I think the Bison are the biggest challenge for 2nd in the Summit as of now, but someone else will probably emerge as a threat as well. Development of players like Duffney is key.

As it is right now, this team will be fortunate to finish in the top half of the league.

What happened to Bergstrom? I must have missed that. She was starting. I didn't realize she had a serious injury.

Peplowski would have also likely started this year absent her ACL injury this summer. Mazurek is also currently out with an ACL from last year, but she should return by conference play and will provide some much needed leadership and toughness.

As indicated, I had heard she was going to be starting, but she tore an ACL in practice before the first game was even played. How many of these girls have dealt with torn ACLs? It's just way too many. I think some of these kids need to refrain from playing basketball year-round and take part in other sports to balance out muscle usage and development or simply to rest, recuperate and develop physically. Too many 18 year olds with 40-year-old knees. If you're good enough, you'll be found.

Hempe (twice on same knee, once as senior in high school) Duffney (senior in high school) NAA (was serious injury, assume it was ACL) Mazurek Pep Bergstrom Grange (assumed, but not officially announced) Plus Broughton next year (both knees in high school)

Congrats to Grace on her first double double with many more to come! Fordham had two shooters who went 11-17 from 3 with hardly any other 3 pt shooters. Hard to determine without video but that is not a good percentage to give up defensively. Any poster at the game or who watched video with any insight? D not organized enough, slow to find shooters, etc.?
I'm not worried about this team at this point. Their cohesiveness should improve every game--remember they have 5 new starters vs teams with 3 or 4 returners. You just don't throw a switch and become a well-oiled machine. This team has enough talent, desire and competitiveness to be successful! Will they be as successful as last year's team realistically no, but they will develop their own legacy and overall, they're very young!!

Early season games favor teams with a lot of returners/experience, late season games favor teams with depth and talent. Sure seem like they are playing an unusually high number of teams in the former category, but should be in a good spot for the latter.

All games favor teams with more talent, which can be developed and molded. Which this team needs. Because it’s not probably not currently all that inherently deep or talented if we’re being honest with each other. There’s been no indication in any D-1 game this year that the Yotes are operating with some kind of noticeable talent edge.
