All games favor teams with more talent, which can be developed and molded. Which this team needs. Because it’s not probably not currently all that inherently deep or talented if we’re being honest with each other. There’s been no indication in any D-1 game this year that the Yotes are operating with some kind of noticeable talent edge. Agreed. And none of this should be all that surprising. This was always going to be a uniquely challenging years. Lost the three super seniors. Lost the two other starters to the transfer portal. Lost a tremendous head coach. And now, Peplowski, Grange, and Bergstrom out for the year. Mazurek not yet back. Bottom line is it would be silly not to expect a bit of a bumpy road. There's talent here but it's raw and needs development. We have a roster full of young ladies who haven't played much together or in many cases at all. And we have an unproven first time head coach. I like Karius and have high hopes that she will do a good job. But quite frankly, she's an unknown quantity. I think what we should all hope to see, regardless of where this team finishes in the summit, is continued improvement. I want to see a team that battles through adversity (because there will be plenty of it). And I want to see a team that is significantly better at seasons end than it is now. If we see that, then we will have reason to believe that things are on the right track.

Bottom line for all of us is this...We're going to need to have lower expectations this year, reality is we are going to be about a .600 team. We'll lose games in conference, especially on the road. Hopefully we can string something together in March. The biggest thing that troubles me is the defensive effort. Defense is hard work, we lack leadership to drive the necessary effort on that end of the court. I would like to see that develop as we move into conference play.

No doubt that defense is about hard work and effort. But it's also about teamwork and communication. They seem lacking in those as well right now.

Agree with everything being said around expectations. We talk so much about the scoring we lost from the seniors last year, but they were all outstanding defensively in their own right. Chloe and Liv were both good defenders and above average athletes, and then the more obvious is losing Hannah who was an all world defensive presence for us. it is more difficult to run teams off the 3-point line when you don't have an elite shot blocker to close off driving lanes to the basket. And again, I think a lot of the lineups that we play are a lot less athletic than what we have been accustomed to the last few years.
On the plus side, I have been impressed with the 3 point shooting both overall and some really solid Indvidual performances. Really curious to see what this team looks like end of January.
