Just getting a thread started.(aka avoiding my job on a Friday lol)
This’ll be a good test for our young team. Yotes meet an old friend in UNC. UNC is currently 5-2 on the season with its two losses coming @ NDSU (68-54) and @ UT Rio Grande ( 61-55). Has wins against Denver ( 77-68) and most recently a 3OT win (102-91) against Colorado State.

Sorry for not keeping up with thread making. I’ve had the flu over the last couple of days. I’m much better from a desktop, and my wife works from home. My fat fingers and slow technique makes for painfully slow posting…. GenX feeling old.
Anyway, let’s get after it, Yotes! A few injuries just means next man up!

We need to come out set the tone of the game and keep up with it. We hurt ourselves by making poor decisions that lead to turnovers and cause us to go into long scoring droughts and big deficits.
The bears have plenty of film of us not at our best. Lets go out and put together an 80% complete game and get us a win. I say 80% because I don’t realistically expect a 100%, but we should be able to get above 75%.
When the bears strike we just gotta bear it out and adapt, and most of all DEFENSE.

Yotes fall to UNC, 72-65. We gave up a 12-0 run in the 3rd and were held scoreless for roughly 7 minutes. GL had 30 points.
Observations, our youth is showing a lot. Macy has taken on the floor general roll along with Grace, but it seems players have no idea what to do ( which I find both frustrating and worrisome since some of the players acting she’ll shocked SHOULD know). A lot of directing what to do going on by the few with experience on court. To sum it up nicely, we’re lucky it was only a 7 point loss. We had a nice comeback attempt at the end but it came up short.

Yikes, that was not a good showing! Good summation yote18. It's like this team is always playing one step behind, both physically and mentally. There is no cohesive coordination or rhythm. They are floundering on both ends of the floor. It's going to take a lot of effort to bring this team together. With how young and inexperienced this team is, I think everyone realized this would be the focus of the season. Now add in all the injuries to some of the veterans and they're a lot of players learning to swim by being tossed in the deep end. Don't panic and enjoy the ride. |

I agree not time to panic yet. A lot of season to go and things can get figured out. We had a great comeback attempt which showed some glimpses of progress.

Between all the miscommunication, offensive chaos and freshman moments, you can still see potential in things like Grace's athleticism and nose for the ball, our defensive effort (not cohesion), and arc-shooting (sometimes). Just a lot of things to get ironed out. They will. Just a matter of when. This team may have a lower ceiling than last year, but we are nowhere near our potential yet. We just need to remember not to act like entitled fans, and keep supporting them. Remember Dawn's first season? Finished 4th and got beat by Omaha in the first round of the SLT. In the end, that was a pretty good hire. |

After watching some of our shooting this year, Coach Karius needs to take a look at some of our starters and their shot selections and/or just plain bad shooting.

I would feel good about anything in the top half of the conference for at least the next 2 years. Right now we have a lot of individuals playing basketball. Not a team. It's just very different than what we've seen in the last 5 years.

One Observation.
In the past several years, we have had several options to bring the ball up the floor. While we did have a “designated point guard”, it could have been, Maddie, Chloe, Liv, Kyah, Macy, or Grace bringing up the ball. This created several different, passing options, especially with Chloe’s insane ability to drop that pass inside. This year, it seems that Grace is demanding the ball every time, which is helpful to the defense in anticipating the pass. And Grace has yet to learn how to see the open person early and to pass the ball inside.

Coaching plays a huge role in development, scheme, and especially defensive effort. I'm not seeing the cohesion or effort improving yet at this point. We have to consider how green our head coach is as well. Not only are our players young and inexperienced, but so is our head coach. They are all growing together. Hopefully some home cooking will help this week. I'll be there cheering them on either way, be nice to see some progress this week.
