Hey, why not combine game threads? The conference schedule is here, ready or not!  #283 Kansas City (4-7) @ #244 South Dakota (4-7) Warren N has USD winning 72-60 Massey has USD winning 72-57 two of KC's four wins were vs non-D-1 schools, one was vs #327 Bradley. two of USD's four wins were vs non-D-1 schools, one was vs #327 Bradley. At this point, no outcome would surprise me other than KC winning in a blowout. We SHOULD be favored, so I'm hoping for a win of any kind. We COULD win handily, and that would be a good sign of progress. Either way, good attendance will help. |

Right now USD is good at:
Arc Shooting
23.6 Attempts
8.5 makes

Ball Control/assists
Committing 12.5 turnovers/game
getting 13.7 Assists/game
achieving 1.10 assist/turnover ratio
Playing clean
16.1 fouls/game
.767 FT shooting
What we are bad at:
Scoring inside the arc
.389 FG%
Forcing Turnovers
2.2 Blocks
6.4 Steals
14.7 Forced TOs
Drawing fouls
15.6 FT Attempts/game
So we are too "clean" overall. We aren't taking advantage of our great FT shooting by not drawing fouls. We aren't taking advantage of our ball control advantage by not forcing turnovers. And we aren't scoring in the paint, which should be one of the easier things to do in basketball, theoretically. Our rebounding is average, and should be at least good with our size advantage at guard (JMO).

Time for the Coyote women to hit the reset button. Conference season is here and everybody is 0-0. A lot of adversity and some disappointment in the non-conference season, but they now get a chance to learn from it and move forward. Don't worry about any expectations. Nothing to lose. Go out there and play loose, play hard, and work on improving every single day. Yotes fans have your back and will be rooting you on every step of the way. Pep talk over.  |

I've been waiting for the Massey rating to shoot up and it really hasn't, at least not significantly. USD's Massey rating is 125, which even the most optimistic fan would say is not realistic. Warren Nolan ELO is 176, NET is 244, and RPI is 260. Part of the equation is that the wins all came with Grange playing, so you have to discount their ratings some. It does appear that USD's losses are to teams that are all better than any non-Dakota team. KC does not look very good...they just beat Bellevue by 16. So if USD can't beat them at home on Monday, then prepare for a Friday Summit League game, and with the Yotes wearing red uniforms. |

I mean, we have had similar results from similar schedules, but a better "best win" (@ #201 St Louis) ... so, yeah. We probably should be favored by just a few points because of the home game. Although I have been known to post some mistakes because of my use of talk-to-text…. 😂😂 I always told both of my kids that the best offense is a good defense. Sometimes you can’t help when shots are just not falling, but you can help prevent the other team’s shots from falling as well. Especially if you steal the ball and go the other direction. |
