The GoYotes article:
VERMILLION, S.D.—South Dakota head football coach Bob Nielson has named Josh Davis the program's offensive coordinator. Davis won a national championship Sunday as the pass game coordinator and wide receivers coach for South Dakota State. "We are extremely pleased to announce the addition of Coach Davis to our staff," said Nielson. "He is an outstanding person, leader and teacher, and has proven his abilities as a championship caliber offensive coach, coordinator and play caller. His knowledge of our league will be a tremendous asset to our program as we move forward in 2023." "My family and I are extremely excited and honored to be joining USD's football program," said Davis. "We look forward to connecting in the Vermillion community and building relationships with Coyotes from the past and present." Prior to South Dakota State this past year, Davis was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, for six seasons. After going 3-7 in his first season, the Red Raiders were a combined 51-10 with five playoff appearances in the next five seasons. Northwestern was among the NAIA's top teams in passing offense, total offense and scoring annually. The 2021 team advanced to the national title game and Davis coached National Player of the Year Tyson Kooima, a quarterback who averaged 323 yards passing per game, during the 2020 season. Davis was the wide receivers coach at SDSU from 2009-15 and mentored five receivers who currently rank among the Jackrabbits' top 10 for career receptions. He started his coaching career at SDSU as a graduate assistant and spent time at Iowa Western Community College before returning to Brookings to coach the receivers. Davis hails from Omaha, Nebraska, and attended Burke High School before embarking on a fantastic career at South Dakota State. He was a three-time all-conference wide receiver, a 2005 team captain and graduated as the program's all-time leader in receptions (225) while ranking second in both career receiving yards (3,192) and touchdowns (26). Davis and his wife, Brittany, have three children, Isabel, Reese and Demi.

Good hire...from what I've heard he's a good recruiter, too. Hope to see some more creativity on the Offensive side of the ball with his style.

This is an excellent hire. Yes, from a rival school but has been engulfed and cut his teeth in the process of success and how to build multiple teams into a championship culture. Once he puts his coaching gear on, his loyalty will be 100% red. I look at it as hiring a guy who has come from meeting rooms that have done an excellent job of utilizing the talent on the roster, well thought out play design, and with a flavor of creativity.

Jay as always great interview!!
I really liked Coach Davis's answers--diversified offense, changing offense some depending on the opponent, players striving to reach max potential, etc!!

A little off topic but not really. Some people are pretty hung up on the fact that Davis is an sdsu guy. Hell, I don't care if we hire Stig himself as long as we start winning consistently. Its past time to worry about where guys are coming from and focus on results.

For his first play call, I'd like to formally suggest, QB under center and sneak it.

Its past time to worry about where guys are coming from and focus on results. No one should be hung up on that. It's not like the guy is going to sabotage himself to serve his alma mater. Austin Hansen jumped schools to assist Craig Smith and I think that worked out well. These are people in the business trying to make a career.

Coach Davis isn’t wasting time on the recruiting trail. Looks like this kid has NDSU and Minnesota offers already. And I’m sure Josh was targeting him at State as well.

I’m not sure if we always planned to make this a two QB class or if Drummond isn’t the style of QB Coach Davis wants to use, but we’ve offer another 2023. These two offers seem to be a little smaller and more mobile than Drummond.
