I was at the game on Saturday, and sat a few rows behind the USD bench. One thing I noticed that was perplexing to me is that we don't push the ball during transition opportunities and it appears as though the players are being encouraged to slow down the game instead of pushing it. One play in particular had us with a 3-2 matchup with our guards going agains one of their bigs, and another player and I watched the signal from the bench to hold back instead of going in. The scenario played out more than once which I found to be frustrating. All in all, definitely a much better second half than the first, and a nice road win at the end regardless of how they did it. I'm guessing that may have something to do with having only 8 players available with one of them limited. Yes, this absolutely was. It's a direct result of their short bench. This was a topic on the postgame show with both Duffney and Kayla. They practiced ways to slow down. This was THE focus in last week's practices. With a fuller roster this team would push the pace, just like they've done most of the year.
