I really love that NAA keeps getting opportunities to talk to the press with this program. She's an accomplished player, and I have to imagine that there are a lot of fans out there that can relate to her. (hopefully this doesn't come off as patronizing, I think she's awesome)

A good night for Kayla with the defensive plan and a good night for the players in executing it.
They did a great job in defending Pilakouta...fronted her with good backside help and if they got stuck behind her they got some excellent digs. They basically took her out of the game. Omaha put her on the bench and then hurt us with the dribble drive, cutting the lead to five.
Pilakouta started the 2nd half on the bench. After that tough stretch to start the third quarter, Kayla went zone. I think she did it at least partly out of foul trouble concerns, but it really shut off their dribble drive.
Omaha does not have a ton of great shooters, so the plan worked tonight. Denver has shooters so they'll have to do something different. But it's tough to dribble against the Yotes without a ton of shooters on the floor because Grace and NAA are such pests. Ten steals between them!
As I mentioned in the Summit League thread, this win goes a long way towards clinching a top-6 seed. To get to three they'll have to win out and hope one of the ND teams loses twice. I think they are headed for a 4-5 matchup with ORU.

Post game presser now on YouTube; see my previous post.
I guess I'm kind of disappointed that they edited out NAA's responses in the press conference. Unless it was at her request, of course. She has a pronounced stutter (unless I'm mistaken), but works through it just fine. Nothing to hide IMHO. She earned that seat with her play yesterday.

She did the post game interview on Midco on Jan 5 and handled it well. (Still on MidcoSports Plus) If it wasn't her request it is disappointing they edited her out.

I had no idea she was a stutterer but it makes me like her all the more.
Her defensive competitiveness is so admirable and needed on this squad. A lot of time with kids who are racking up steals they're taking themselves out of position and falling asleep on their actual responsibilities while "hunting" ... but NAA's ability to stay in front of the ball and really shut down the penetration and shot attempts of the player she's supposed to be guarding is impressive.

She needs more playing time. I know she is small, but her ability to defend is an element we are desperate for.

She plays a lot bigger than she is defensively. A lot.

I love NAA's tenacity and grit on the floor too. All things this team needs more of. Looking forward to seeing her develop during the off season!

I’m curious from those of you that truly understand the game of basketball what your thoughts are on the future of the program? Between what’s coming back and who we have signed. Nothing about being out coached, etc. Just a straight out gut feel on how we’re positioned for the foreseeable future.

We have more scoring coming in but no size yet that I am aware of. The Jacks always seem to have a litany of 6 foot versatile players. That is ultimately who we are competing with. You can win that way in our league. We also have a lot to work on defensively. High school players, as a rule, have a big learning curve going into college. If it were me, I would be looking for size in the transfer portal. You can recruit 1 thru 3 (and maybe 4) without leaving the region. Big girls are much harder to come by. Hannah was a unicorn in that regard, but if you remember, she transferred in. Without going into the coaching, that's my two cents.

I'm not smart enough to answer the question fully, but the Hannah talk reminded me of a good story.
It was Taylor Frederick's freshman season. She got into a game late or some such in a walk away win. I went downtown to celebrate and was discussing the game with a younger guys next to me. I said something like "I don't know who recruited Taylor Frederick but she is NOT good." The guy then decides to introduce himself. It was her brother.
All that to say even if you recruit em or transfer them in you gotta develop them too. Time will tell if that's a strength of this staff.

All I know is that it seems like we struggle woth in game planning and in game adjustments. We don't know if it's coaching or players. In reality it is surely a combination of both. We'll know more in 2 years. Let K get a couple of recruiting classes in. It only took craig smith 1 to turn the tide. It can happen in 1 year with the new transfer rules. As hard as it is for me to admit, some patience will be necessary. I just hope we don't settle for mediocrity in the long run
