Unbelievable how we can't play defense without fouling.

This team confuses more than the women do. At least there are some reasons why they struggle at times. I just don't know why this team is struggling like they are. Lack of a 7ft post??
Certainly very un-GATA like. Disappointing.

7 footers are hard to find, but I think a 6'7" to 6'9" power forward type would help. That is no knock on D. Hayes, he's one of my favorite Coyotes. He and Tasos just need a little more relief. It's a lot to ask of a freshman who gets his red shirt pulled in the middle of the season, also.
And Mason should shoot more...
my 2 cents

Damani plays hard but he misses so many layups because he is undersized. Since Taso prefers to shoot 3's we effectively play 5 out and that is one of the reasons we end up getting slaughtered on the boards. That and the fact that both of our "post" players effectively play like they are 6'4". Most of the time when our shot goes up everyone on our team is at leas 15 feet away from the basket. It's only a problem when it doesn't go in.

This team is just so small. Sometimes they are smaller than a good number of SD high school teams. That's not hyperbole.
Regarding offensive rebounding, depending on the opponent and who is on the floor, they will commit varying numbers of players to crash the offensive boards. They chart how effective they are in complying with the direction. And obviously, they don't have a lot of guys who are effective offensive rebounders, so they're usually conservative about sending guys. And to your point db, they often already have at least three guys around the perimeter anyway.
Petey will need to add a big in the portal who can defend the rim and and defend the post without getting help all the time. Branch will be back and Hill is 6-9, but he's pretty slight and likes to play on the perimeter offensively. But their lack of size just limits what they can do.

We are truly limited athletically right now. One thing that really frustrates me about this bunch is our inconsistent effort. Intensity ebbs and flows a ton from game to game, even half to half. I know basketball is a game of momentum, but the only thing truly in a player's control is effort.
