Tommies lone loss last year was their opening game. It was against the only scholarship team they played. Most believe they got better every week. They have A WR on a preseason All-American team and 9 on the Pioneer league preseason all conference. Third year in D-1, don't underestimate them.

Was anyone able to observe the scrimmage today?

Pretty vanilla as this was the first full pad scrimmage this year. The offense keeps getting better day after day. Great enthusiasm and attitudes it appears to me.

How about injuries? Any walking wounded?

A backup rush linebacker who was having a great camp got hurt pretty bad. Likely out for the year. Other than that we’re fine.

Houston Baptist - 2019……We overlooked them as a fan base too, a team that finished 1-10 in 2018 and finished 5-7 in 2019. And we all know how that game went. Don’t overlook the Tommies. They wanna prove they belong just as much the Yotes.

It's important for this program to have some standard for success.

Did they ever announce the contract extension for Bob? I'm not trying to stir the pot or comment on his coaching ability just wondering what his contract status is. Incredibly curious about this question in light of Herbster's departure.

Incredibly curious about this question in light of Herbster's departure. Might be part of the reason for the departure... My speculation since that end of season press conference has been that Herbster knew he wasn't sticking around and didn't want to go through a coaching search again (also why our two basketball hires were former assistants that didn't require a search). I've heard in the past that USD has had presidents who didn't care much for athletics before Abbott realized we had to go D1. It would be very unfortunate if our next AD doesn't have the necessary support.

All the rumblings I've heard suggest that Gestring is pulling all the levers behind the scenes when it comes to the athletic department and specifically who is hired there. That would be enough of a reason for me to leave if I was Herbster.

She needs to realize she does not know athletics and trust those that do know athletics to run the department.

The current USD President is VERY supportive of athletics. That (bad) rumor can be put to bed immediately. It may be such that she wants to win too much and is ultra completive, to a fault, but to suggest she doesn't support athletics could not be further from the truth. The Administration is hyper aware of the ever changing landscape of athletics now and into the future. We need to be positioned to adjust and be financially prepared for these changes. Major fundraising and marketing will be of the utmost importance moving forward. There is a reason there have been a bevy of consultants involved with and supporting the athletic department for the last several months. We are trying to prepare for what is to come.

Yes, it is a significant move from a wholistic point of view, but it doesn't affect this season at all, so let's stick to this football team. Any word on how the practices are going? Has anyone been able to get eyes on the progress of position groups? How is the QB play looking, since that was a major concern at the backup spot after the spring? How do we look upfront on both sides, are their any significant changes or progress being made? Also, how are the WR and DBs coming along? We already know that the RBs, LBs, and DBs are in a good place starter and depth-wise going into the 1st game. Would love to hear some inside info.
