USD & SDSU - 3 common opponents this year - who will do better?
2011 will be the last year for the for hopefully a long time without a South Dakota vs South Dakota State FB game. The 2011 schedule does have 3 common opponents.
Southern Utah - has to travel to Brookings and Vermillion
Cal Poly - USD and SDSU travel to SLO
Ill St - USD and SDSU travel to Normal Ill
Are those three games enough to make a good comparison? Which program will look better afterward?

I don't know if it's really a good yard stick to measure by.... but I'll have a big grin on my face if we fair better!

How should SDSU defend the SUU QB Brad Sorensen? I looked at the SUU website and he has good numbers for the entire season. I see he was originally a BYU guy and went 31 out of 36 in passing in one game. I believe that was UC Davis. Not trying start something here, but how did the yotes try to stop him and his good arm?

The key against SUU is to get to the QB and knock him around. Sorenson is very accurate on short and intermediate routes and can throw the long ball hitting his receivers in stride. He benefits from a very good O-line unit that really gave him the time and kept him from getting flustered or beat up last year. Their best receiver from last year graduated and the other WRs I saw on film last year were all a few steps down compared to him. USD did not consistently pressure the QB and the result was predictable. SDSU will pressure SUU and cause some turnovers. The defensive minds at SDSU seem to be creative and have had the athletes to get pressure more often than not. The SUU defense was physical but not overly impressive from a speed standpoint. NDSU's defense last year looked a little more physical and significantly faster against USD last year on film. If SDSU and USD do not win these games at home I would be very disappointed.

Thanks for the insight. I hoping we have someone who can get at this guy. If he sits back in the pocket and passes successfully it could be a long night.

I'm not sure State has the players to get to the SUU quarterbaack and cause problems. There's a lot of question marks on this team right now. Don't be surprised if USD wins more of these games than State does. This very well could be SDSU's worst team in probably 3-4 years.

The Jacks had 4 sacks, lots of pressure, and 3 interceptions.
