Everyone dressed except Mazurek (in sweats, no visible injury).
Starters were NAA, Larkins, Holmes, Duffney, Demers.
Kieffer (wow) was first off bench, followed by DePerry and Hempe.
Grange likely unavailable. Carson doing clipboard duty so likely unavailable.
Bergstrom may not be cleared yet either.

Final was 82-53. Observations:
As expected for an October exhibition game, it was a bit uneven. They did not shoot well at all from deep, or at the foul line. Ended the first half on an 11-0 run and then extended that to a 25-0 run with excellent defensive pressure to start the second half. They killed Wayne St on the glass.
Pretty surprised that it was pretty much an 8-woman rotation in the first half. Klosterbuer got the last minute of each of the first two quarters. Hansen came in midway through the 3Q as the 10th player.
All 14 available players did play, including Bergstrom.
DePerry was as advertised. A bit undersized for a post, but she was aggressive and physical. May have more trouble converting against good D1 competition, but she will play a lot even if she doesn't start.
Avila-Ambrosi started, and when she got two quick fouls Kieffer was the first off the bench. She provided good defensive pressure, so they way I read it is that Kayla may be looking to have one of those two on the floor to play harassing defense, especially after all the issues with guarding the perimeter last season. Kieffer was also used as a point guard when Larkins was off the floor and her handle wasn't as tight as you'd like there. That may be a work in progress.
Klosterbuer is as skilled offensively as we've seen in high school highlights. She can flat-out shoot. But she did have problems guarding the ball, so they may have to play matchups with her as they work her in. But when Grange comes back Klosterbuer is probably the tenth player if tonight was an indication.
That #21 is pretty good, she will probably play a lot.

I thought that Kendall Holmes, the transfer from DePaul, is very good. Didn't shoot well tonight, but she's going to be a defensive stopper. Very physical and strong with the ball. Reminds me a bit of the Arens girls. This team looks to be very deep and much more physical than last season. They brought it defensively all night which was really nice to see. Definitely going to be an up-tempo team offensively. Everything is just an entirely different feel from last season.

Was at the game last night as well and I would say 90yote summed up the evening quite well. The women were very tentative to start the game and a bit weak on their defensive rotations. About halfway through the 2nd quarter they started picking up the intensity and it was a rout from there. The lack of intensity out of the gate concerned me a bit, we saw that a lot with this team last year, disinterested play at times for lack of a better description. I thought DePerry off the bench gave us the spark we were missing last year and really got us going. She provides much needed athleticism and physicality for this team. We need to keep her healthy and playing quality minutes. I wasn't as impressed with Holmes last night, but I also don't think it was a good night for her. The young players all looked the part and will only get better as we progress through the non-con schedule. Highlight of the night for me was Coral Mason off the bench in the 4h hitting a 3. She's such a great story for our program and looked good in her minutes out there.

so 8 with significant minutes, 14 played out of 17 on the roster. Although I'm not thrilled seeing Grange, Mazurek and Carson not playing, we still will have a lot of depth potentially. 15 Assists against 14 turnovers isn't great. We will need some better ball security. On the other hand, getting 13 steals and forcing 26 turnovers is .... very good. 5 of our 14 turnovers were from freshmen, so that can get cleaned up with experience. Grace had a A/TO of 2.00 so that's good. Duffney had 4 assists/ zero turnovers!

In terms of shooting efficiency, we only shot 19% from the arc, but Grace was 3-of-4.
Inside the arc (FG minus 3P) we had six players shooting 60% or better - which I would expect to be an advantage when playing a D-II team:
75% 3 of 4 - Demers 75% 3 of 4 - Holmes 67% 2 of 3 - Klosterbuer 64% 7 of 11 - DePerry 60% 3 of 5 - Duffney 60% 6 of 10 - Larkins
Mason was also 1 of 1
From the stripe we only shot 57% as a team (12 of 21). I expect that Grace and our forwards to be drawing the most fouls. Duffney and DePerry didn't miss any. Grace was 6 for 9 and Demers was 0 for 3. Small sample size, so maybe not a big deal.

Interesting that of the 4 freshmen, Olivia K was getting the most minutes, possibly getting some significant playing this year? (hard to say what will change before a final rotation is settled into)... I think that a lot of us didn't know what to expect from Olivia, coming from a smaller school in the Black Hills area. Seems like lots of kids from there (in all sports) end up being under-recruited due to lack of media/ AAU coverage.

I mean this with all the respect in the world for everybody involved, but Wayne State was 7-15 in the NSIC last year. Measuring much of anything as to where coaches, players and fans want this program to be against that stick doesn't mean much. You should win that one by 50.

Yeah, I don't think anyone was blown away by the performance. Huge grain of salt with every comment. I just think it's nice to finally get a glimpse into what the roster rotation MIGHT look like and what this team WANTS to be this year. I think that Grace's huge stat line is concerning, because if we want to win the Summit, we shouldn't be a 1-player show like last year. I guess I treat my expectation in exhibition NCAA BB games similarly to watching the NFL preseason. Don't get too invested in the outcome. The coaches are probably trying to get a handle on new players and schemes, and trying some things out, rather than trying to blow the doors off of a D-II team. NBD
