SDSU won on this floor 55-38 a month ago. Massey line has the Yotes favored by 8.

Year after year after year - we cannot deal with a full court press.

I try not to blame referees for anything, but man they've made this game hard to watch. Between the touchy fouls and the refs not knowing what a jump stop is, it's been pretty awful.

Road wins are good wins.
But they aren’t always pretty or impressive. That one doesn’t necessarily fill me with optimism.

These turnovers are a major issue. After a certain sample size you are who you are. Hope we can improve as it will be tough to beat quality opponents when you give away that many possessions.

I’d certainly expect to be pressed liberally throughout the conference season.

Its a win but the team played poorly against a 2-7 team

Not sure what I just watched there. The idea of 'value every possession' is certainly not this team's identity. If we could come up with a stat that combines turnovers with wild shots where it doesn't really look like they are trying to make the shot, it would show us...what we already know.
I do think some of the issues with the press/turnovers are on the coaching staff. At some point, the press break can't be "keep doing what we have done the last 20 times that resulted in 13 turnovers". Running a player to the corner to get the ball wasn't going to be the answer the 5th time or the 25th time. Though, in fairness, there must have been 5 travels that were not travels. Holmes got called for a travel for catching the ball in the air and then landing.

We need one of those patented Kiyoat stat-breakdowns. I have to imagine the offensive efficiency ranking isn't our strength.

Lady Yotes were fortunate to make 2 deep 3s they had to have to get to OT. After defending the 3 at 22% for season, TNM made 48% with a lot of wide open looks. Combine that with 20+ TOs by the Coyotes there is plenty to work on!
Good film though since they ran some zone looks in our offensive end and tried to deny touches in the paint. Also trapping zone press at least half of game.
Ugly road win but better than the alternative.

Similar to the vibe in here...
Nice comeback. This team has shooters, and they now have pulled out two games on the road with clutch shooting.
But big-picture wise, in the context of "can this team win it all in Sioux Falls"...it's tough to see that right now. I do think they can finish 2nd. They are definitely improved from last year. I thought the Bahamas trip was good for them, and I've seen some things that make me think a conference championship is possible. They need to continue building confidence and hope their spirit and resilient play carry them. Maybe Grange can give them a lift, though I wonder where her minutes will come from. I think Hempe has earned her minutes. I guess they will come from NAA and Kieffer, so that will give them more size and length.
Speaking of that, the issues on the press come down to lack of speed, athleticism, and length. Also, they attacked it a couple of times, but most often they were content to bring it out and run offense. Teams that press with impunity are doing it because they aren't concerned with getting beat by it. Kayla referenced this in the post-game, so maybe they will get a bit better at it. Also, think about how bad they would be at this *without* Larkins. Woof.
Lastly, sometimes people say there is nothing to be gained from playing NAIA teams. But Holmes got hot the other night and it carried over to today. Confidence is such a big part of shooting, and Holmes did shoot 38% from deep as a starter on a Big East team last year. But she's on a new team and hasn't shot it well so far. That was a big shooting performance today, capped by a deep, challenged three to tie it.
Go Yotes!

As well as #44 played for them scoring the ball she must’ve made 5 passes where I — not her coach, not a fan, no idea who she is — WTF’ed the screen.

The turnovers concern me. But so does the fact that a team that scored 38 against State had 68 in regulation with 20-plus turnovers. That ain’t getting it done.
