The Lady Yotes hang tough in Omaha with a 77-71 OT win, out scoring the Mavs 11-5 in OT!
Grace scored her 1,000th point in the contest with 22 and recorded another double double with 11 rebounds. It was her 10th career double double!
It was the Coyote's 3rd OT victory on the road. It's the first time the Lady Yotes have had more than one OT win in a season! This team is still figuring things out, but they never give up!
Watched the game and this Omaha team and their announcers were pumped about finally ending the Yote win streak, but it was not to be!
The Coyotes made 89% of their FTs (16-18) compared to 68% (15-22) for Omaha, and wore the Mavs down with their talented, deep bench!
Still need to improve on TOs and have locked in focus for 4 Qs, but this team has talent and will continue to improve!!
Go Yotes!!!

One, congrats to Ms. Larkins on one more notch on her belt in an excellent career thus far.
Two, this is why I'm extremely hesitant to jump on any kind of coach-bashing train around here. I'm not real certain that a poorly-coached team is ever going to win three OT games on the road in one season.

If we played better in regulation OT wouldn't have been necessary. We played well for maybe half of regulation.

I'm not real certain that a poorly-coached team is ever going to win three OT games on the road in one season. Can't remember where I heard/read this many years ago when I was just starting out, but the adage went that if a game was 10 points or less coaching was involved, more than 10 coaching had nothing to do with the outcome. Seems USD is faring well in this department. If anyone thinks any coach doesn't spend hours game planning, watching film and preparing for an opponent, they're completely delusional.

The Coyotes made 89% of their FTs (16-18) compared to 68% (15-22) for Omaha, and wore the Mavs down with their talented, deep bench! This is actually an important part of the game, and probably saved us in this one. USD averaged only 15.2 personal fouls per game, but the Mavs got us to commit 25! Even with that high number of fouls (and extra minutes in OT), nobody fouled out. The Mavs did have a starter foul out. We had 9 different players with at least 2 fouls. To me, that's an effective and smart rotation of players, and a deep bench. I'll just add that to a narrative that our coaches are doing a good job. Who knows if that's the case, but deciding when to pull players to preserve fouls is an important thing a coach does IMHO. Of course, if we committed less turnovers, we wouldn't be in that OT situation, but Omaha is forcing 17.6 TO/game on average, and we turned it over 18 times.

Our defense is atrocious. If you watched the game or even the condensed game above you can see how slow we are, how slow our rotations are. You can't constantly get beat off the dribble or on cuts to the basket. I'm not sure if that is an athleticism issue or an effort issue? I do know it's something we need to clean up or it will be a long conference season.

Agree not sure if there is a fix we are trying to do some zone. Maybe Grange back will help. Our recruits in 24 and 25 sound more athletic . We do miss Watson
