... We continue to turn the ball over at an alarming rate, and it seems like half of them are on attempted passes into a post. Either the ball gets there late and is stolen, the pass is too high and goes out of bounds, the pass is not reachable and stolen, the pass does not have enough zip when needed and is stolen, or the wrong kind of pass is made for the situation. Maybe it is the angle of the pass, meaning the window is so small a perfect pass is required? Sometimes they try to force the ball where there is no window. They need to work on that.... Yeah, that's a good observation. Remember the "teardrop" passes from Lamb or Korngable in to Sjerven? Those were hard to defend. Partly because of Sjerven's wingspan and abilities/instincts, but I think the chemistry between the players may have played a big role, too. The timing needs to be right, and anticipation of what the other player is going to do. Time and experience together is a factor, I think.

First, we don't have anything close to Sjerven as a post target. Second, I agree that there are times when the communication/anticipation between the post and the passer just looks off. Third, we make a lot of stupid passes trying to force the ball when it just isn't there.

We don’t even remotely have a post like Sjerven. No disrespect to our current post, but they just don’t play how she did. She was very athletic and mobile. Passes did not have to be perfect and she could still bring them in. I loved her defensively also. The way she hedged on the perimeter and still got back to cover her girl was amazing to watch. As for the difference in our defense against Omaha and St Thomas I think a lot of it comes down to the type and how those teams played. Omaha was very aggressive to the bucket. We continual struggle with that. We struggle keeping them in front, our help is late, and our help the helper is often not there.
