Southern Tour! Forecast is for a high of 62 in KC on Thursday, and 70 degrees on Saturday in Tulsa! They could literally be playing these games outside... in February. Predictions:Yotes beat Roos 70-62 (-8) Massey Yotes beat Roos 68-63 (-5) WN Yotes beat Eagles 76-74 (-2) Massey Eagles beat Yotes 72-71 (+1) WN Not a huge ringing endorsement from the computers this week. The ORU game is forecasted as a toss-up... Win both, and we are in 3rd place by at least a half-game, lose both and we are squarely in 4th or 5th. I think we probably need to beat both ORU AND NDSU to get to that 3-seed spot by tournament time...

Looking at Conference-only stats, What are these teams good at/ bad at?
KC is good at blocking shots. They are #1 in conference, blocking 3.83 per game.
KC is good at FG% defense. They only allow .421 FG shooting (3rd)
KC is bad at shooting. They shoot .405 FG (8th), .291 3PT (8th), .632 FT (last) They also don't take a ton of 3-point or Free-throw shots.
So I think if we are moving the ball well on the perimeter and getting good arc looks we will be fine offensively. Drive-and-kick might be a good strategy if they have good interior defense. Pushing the ball in transition might work well on the Roos, too.
On defense I think we probably need to wall off the paint and force them to beat us from the perimeter?

ORU is almost an opposite challenge. They are a high-pace, high-possession, high-scoring team that seems to be about volume shooting, forcing turnovers and transition offense.
I don't think we match up particularly well with them, TBH.

Lady Yotes took care of business topping the Roos by 14 but had 17 TOs which is unacceptable!
Hit 23 of 27 FTs vs 3 of 5 for KC, so played good D without fouling!
Walker had 19 and Carley 14 and Grace 19. Carley started and played well!
Had 33 RBs vs 21.
Could only watch half the game due to buffering problems. Anyone else have that problem?
Announcers were below average but camera work was worse! Would show FT shooter's face 90% of shots so didn't know if FT made or not.
Good reminder to any producers, supervisors, etc. with any job --Inspect what you expect!!!

Great effort tonight by the team. They weathered a comeback in the 3rd to put them away in the 4th. Outside the turnovers which was unfortunate letting KC outscore us 26-15 in Q3 was also unacceptable. This theme of us always having one quarter where we just fall apart was an item I had hoped would correct itself through the season. We can weather the storm against some teams but you won’t be able to do that against others.
ORU could go either way. Omaha led for a nice portion of their game tonight against them. So I think ORU is definitely beatable. The concern is what has already been mentioned. We gotta take care of the basketball and we can’t give up a quarter. It has to be a full 4 Q game.

Walker must be healthy played a lot of minutes and played well. Carley also is stepping up.

Agree with most comments here. It would have been nice, after a good first half, to put away an inferior team and not have the third quarter they had. And the turnovers were an issue again. But if you get to late February and the problems you had earlier in the season are still problems, then it's a feature, not a bug.
Good to see Walker have a couple of good games and play confidently.

I enjoyed watching the game last night. Yes, they did have some problems in the third-quarter, but I see so much talent and growing chemistry on this team. Somebody commented on another thread that they would like to see the teardrop passes that Liv and Chloe would throw to Hannah. If you look back at old games, those didn’t happen overnight. Hannah‘s first year, she did not get passes inside like that. And the second year, they were only successful some of the time. It took a long time to get the correct timing and chemistry between those girls. It will come for these girls as well, if they stay together. Remember, other teams have good players too.
One thing with ORU, they always seem to have homer refs. Every year, we would get bad foul calls down there, especially on our posts. If we could avoid those, I think it should be a competitive game. And we need to take care on passes, because they like to jump passing lanes.
And we totally agree with the Kansas City cameraman fail. Not only focusing on the shooter’s face, but often focusing on people on the sidelines, while the game was going on. Show us the game, we don’t need to see the people you’re talking about unless it’s a dead ball!!

I mean, she shot 57 and 58 percent from the floor her first two seasons on campus, so she was getting passes inside like that from somebody.

Speaking of Hannah, my buddy and I were discussing who the new commit was yesterday and we decided that it should be a long, 6-3 post from Minnesota with jet black hair, using the name Shannon Herven.🤣

Maybe we could sign her backup of Frederika Taylor as well. It would be a 1-2 punch at center like we once had that NO ONE could stop.

Brings back memories of the 2019-20 team. 30 - 2 record with only losses to South Carolina and Missouri State. Ranked #11 in the final coaches poll & #17 in the final AP poll. There was a reasonable chance that USD could have ended up as a top 16 overall seed and a host site for the first 2 rounds of the NCAA tournament, then along came Covid.

I was thinking about this yesterday. The best d1 coyote team ever steamrolled the conference and tourney and was robbed of the spotlight they deserved. It's actually one of the biggest disappointments of my fandom. What could have been? On the other hand, odds are dawn leaves then and we don't experience the sweet 16 run a few years later. It likely would have changed history.
