Hmmm interesting - and disappointing. You only schedule a D2 because you have your 2 OOC FCS games. I like to think PSU cancelled the game in a way that didn't harm USD's playoff chances (let USD line up on an empty field, thus a clear forfeit or something), but it would also be a class move by USD to not require that. Do we still have time to bring in a buy-game (win) on our by week? A last minute schedule, but effectively PSU would be paying for it I would guess?

I can't imagine we would be able to find a FCS team who is off on our bye week that doesn't already have 12 games on the schedule. Not sure it's wise either.

This is BS. This is why we need to get out of this shitty division. Win the games in front of us and this won't be a problem.

I’m at SDSU for the Augie game and just learned of the cancellation of USD’s game at Portland State. Unfortunate circumstances but from my limited knowledge of whooping cough, may be the right decision.
Didn’t USD cancel a game with NDSU due to Covid a few years ago? What was done in that case about NDSU expenses etc?

Sacred Heart & Delaware are the only FCS teams with that date open and 11 scheduled games. Get them on the phone!!
Sacred Heart is a FCS Independent and would be the perfect game for us they were 2-9 last year and don't look extremely strong this year.

Games were getting cancelled all over the place. We only played 1 of our 4 scheduled home games. It would have been easier to work out settling costs on a bus trip instead of a cross-country trip though.

I also found Delaware and Sacred Heart as the only two FCS teams with that date open and just 11 games on the schedule. Delaware is transitioning to FBS, I'm not sure if they care about their FCS days any longer. Sacred Heart is a hopeless program that is currently independent. They might take a paycheck. My only other idea is that West Georgia plays Lincoln (a travelling team that is independent of any governing body, reporting 3 wins in program history) that day if we could somehow buy that one out. West Georgia is transitioning to D1 but I believe that counts all the same just like our win over St Thomas last year. Again, not sure how wise it is to give up our bye week for another D1 counter win, but these are the only options.

Another SDSU fan here. It is absolutely ridiculous that any adult who has been around a baby in the last approximately 12 years to not have an active vaccination for percussion.

I think autocorrect might have gotten you. Pertussis is the correct medical name? I assume that my toddler and I have been vaccinated for this. The only time in my life that I have ever heard of someone complaining of whooping cough was my grandmother, who was born in a bathtub in extremely rural Nebraska in the 1930s without any vaccinations or modern medicine, thinking she had it like 10-15 years ago. I'm baffled to have this be news in 2024. Vaccinate your kids for the love of god.

What a day - I just got home from kids stuff to see Jacks fans saying good things on the USD board, and the Jacks 1st team offense in the game and throwing the ball against Augie with 5 minutes left in the game. What in the world is going on today?

Also seen reports that USD wanted to play anyways.
Insane that this is a cancelation and not a forfeit.

Not sure it matters, or anyone cares, if we get a win for a game we didn't play. Our guys could have really used the work to get ready for league play. Really sucks. Why does this kind of crap always happen to us?

That's a lot of money spent for nothing. Flying an entire team out with support staff and equipment, just to fly back. Portland knew about this 2 days ago and should have contacted us immediately so we didn't have to go through these expensive motions. For that alone, this should be a forfeit and not a cancellation. We needed this game and it's really doubtful we'll fill the bye week with another FCS opponent. It's better to keep the bye week rather than ratcheting down to another D-II opponent or tackle another FBS team.
