YSU is 2-5. Laid 59 pts on Valparaiso and beat Indiana State by 7. Lost to Missouri State (4-2) by 7 and one of MoSU's two losses was at Montana losing by 5 (MO State is currently ranked 20th). state laid 63 on them on bum day last weekend for their worst loss. So they've had mixed results BUT they are a VALLEY TEAM and it is a road game so they certainly can't be overlooked!!
The Coyotes need to be laser focused, take care of the football, keep the offense balanced, continue the great defensive play and realize it is the most important game NOW!!
Go Yotes!!!

We have yet to win in Youngstown. We need to take this game as seriously as any others.

Never won at Youngstown, and every trip that comes to mind has been agonizing. Have to win these games to live up to the ranking.

Youngstown had 372 yards of total offense and 20 first downs against SDSU, our defense better be focused and ready to go.

Not much chatter about this one. I think we run away with this one if it's played in the dome. On the road, I just don't know. I still think we'll win handily, but definitely not a game we can look past.

I still think we'll win handily, but definitely not a game we can look past. Was looking for some predictions or discussion of this game on FCS sources.... there's very little out there, as this game is overshadowed by the marker game. Strange that there is more discussion of Incarnate Word than the almost consensus #4 team in the country. We will be favored by a lot, so I suppose it is just a less compelling game to discuss for those outside the program. Our road history there makes it a compelling game for us and the team. One person who is giving us his full attention is Youngstown HC Doug Phillips: "... Two years ago, South Dakota struggled, with the same kids. Carter Bell, Travis Theis, Aiden Bouman, those Offensive Linemen, ... I give them all the respect in the world. They struggled to a three-win season. In the last two years with the same kids, ... guess what? They stuck to it. They stayed with the plan... And we're gonna continue to work as hard as we can (too)..." And then some more discussion of the game at the end of the presser:

The Reddit r/fcs matchup predictor favors us by 27.5 points, and the weather is predicted to be damn near perfect in Youngstown on Saturday. Thus far, YSU has a very average offense and an atrocious defense. They rank last in the conference at stopping the run. Looking at individual stats, it appears that their offense leans heavily on their QB as he has a near equal share of carries with their primary two running backs. Keep him contained and pound the rock and we should easily roll. Just can’t lack focus and allow them to stick around. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1xHrVbH8gTNIoZySV8uzV-GmJ6x0Y1t_JB5z1d6JQ90I/htmlview#

I caught part of an interview with Bob on the radio. He said he was most concerned about their QB being dual threat. Not sure we have faced a dual threat QB yet?

Need to be very weary of this trip and atmosphere at YSU. Have never played well there and they may not be quite as poor as we think because look who they have played. They beat the teams they should beat and lost to 3 ranked FCS teams and an FBS plus another team that is 4-2 at the moment. I firmly believe we will handle it well, but it may not be as lopsided as we think on paper. Like I said last week, I hope I am wrong and we thrash them.

The more I think about this game the more I conclude that my only concerns are our poor history in Youngstown and that we are due for a game that is closer than it should be. That said, we match up very well with them, given that we should be able to lean on the running game. If that’s successful and Bouman can be his usually safe, efficient self, I can’t imagine them keeping pace with us. I would be more worried if we potentially needed to pass 30+ attempts.

Some FCS stats for everyone.
Total Offense: USD 12th YSU 39th Total Defense: USD 7th YSU 98th Rush Defense: USD 12th YSU 114th Pass Defense: USD 22nd YSU 47th
Time of Possession USD 20th @ 32 mins / game YSU 1st @ 37 mins / game
Their QB is a dual threat. Scrambles to generate yards but also has designed runs called for him. 6 Passing TDs and 7 INTs 7.1 yards / carry and 7 TDs
* YSU only averages 13 points per game * * Yotes at around 40 points per game *
Notes: 1. Yotes defense puts a spy on their QB and bottles him up, their offense is done for. 2. YSU run defense is so bad, they give up huge rushing plays and TDs so fast, their offense is always getting the ball back; hence #1 TOP in the FCS. 3. Yotes have the top RB tandem (Theis & Pierre Jr) in FCS statistically and we know what our rushing attack is capable of.
This sets up very nicely (strength vs. weakness) and is a kick-them while they're down type of game. A great opportunity to go out there and get the Youngstown monkey off our back.
Go Yotes!

Any word on Theis? He didn't finish the last game.

Any word on Theis? He didn't finish the last game. Bruised shin. He should be good to go.
Not sure if they plan to use him in this game tho...

This is such a huge game because if the Yotes win at the Ice Castle They SHOULD be playoff bound.
