Well, figured I'd start this thread. We do have a game this week. I think there is a lot of disgust still hanging around from the Cal Poly game with the fanbase. I don't expect a good or enthusiastic turnout Saturday, which is a shame since it is Senior Day. Personally, I will be unable to attend for the first time in years due to other commitments but will be following the game progress with the help of modern technology.
I expect USD to come out and demolish S&T. Have to be careful though as we saw how UND barely escaped last week against the lower level USF. (Wow, what is the deal in GF?) The Yotes need to come out early and establish there dominance in the trenches, through the air, and on the scoreboard, then cruise to any easy victory and give the backups some late season PT.

I understand the natural "letdown" fans may have after Cal-Poly, but this is where we have to learn that it is extremely important we back the Coyotes each and every game.
As we head into the MVC next year, I think we may struggle somewhat, so an enthusiastic "home crowd" is going to make a difference. No one likes this game (hell the staff even admits it) but we are going to recognize I believe 22 guys that will be playing their last game in the Dome. They came to USD4-5 years ago knowing they would never compete for a title or even a chance of the playoffs because of the 5 year transition. I do think they have done a very good job of competeing, and the have provided us with a number of great things the past 2-3 years. My hat is off to them.
Thank you to those seniors and my words of wisdom to you are to remain loyal to USD and come back and be one of "us" now that the playing careers are winding down. You have been alot of fun to watch, and you are a bunch of good guys.
I say go to the game and yell as if the championship of anything was on the line.

For those who can make the game, we have got to show thanks and a lot of energy. The entire S&T staff is recent coaches and players from Cal-Poly. I'm sure they have got a lot of commentary and strategy from their old team. Not to mention, they have knocked off some decent teams. I think this is their last game, so we have to make them quit early and often.
The Yotes should lay it on teams like this the way Wisconsin did to us. We have a team talented enough to go 10 and 1 with a better showing than we did in Madison.
I am challenging the players to execute, the seniors to lead and leave it all on the field, the coaches to substitute more often and change up the offense, the BOR to get a clue about contracts, and US to put the fear of the Coyotes in to the next 2 opponents!

When it comes to this game I have a couple of thoughts. None of them are based on the game itself as the majority of Coyote fans are not thrilled with Missouri S&T including myself. There are basically two things that go into why this game is happening on Saturday. One I can live with and one I have a big problem with.
USD has a budget to fullfill and as a result scheduled several road FBS money games and in exchange for the almighty dollar chalk 2 of the 3 non D1 home games as a payback for selling out for money. I really have no problem with that.
What I do have a problem with is the reason USD is playing a third non D1 home games vs what should have been the absolute max of 2. USD's previous scheduling practices and buyout contract clauses have allowed other D1 FCS programs an out in place of actually fullfilling their end of the contract by playing in Vermillion. For that USD has no one to blame but themselves and that is what I have a big problem with. Thanks alot Joel Nielson, you should have known better. What should have been done is for USD to have a huge buyout clause on contacts that have USD traveling first. That was not done to a large enough extent to act as a deterant against what should have been avoided. That is still hurting USD to this day. Lets call it a lesson learned that better not happen again.
What I also find interesting is that in all 3 cases I was able to buy a ticket the day before a game that was substancially better than the seats I used to get as a season ticket holder. Something is just not right with that. As a value shopper I felt I got a much better deal buying single game tickets instead of season tickets. That is something that needs to be looked at closer from within.
In future years there should be about 5 home games a year worth going to so the value of a season ticket will go up quite a bit. I put the cutoff on 4. If the home schedule doesn't include at least 4 worthy home games than season tickets are not worth it to the common fan.
This is a message that the athletic department doesn't want written but I never hide the truth whether it's the politically correct opinion or not.

Well we are now in a conference that guarantees 4 home games. We also have Colgate at home. There you go.

I hope for USD's sake that this opinion is not widely held. Ideally, you support your team by buying season tickets whether the team is winning or losing. Sure, many won't do that when a team is losing but nonetheless, people need to support the team monetarily. Declaring something to be "truth" does not make it so.

You replied to a quote where I mentioned the quality of home games. Nowhere in my statement that you quoted did I say anything about winning or losing. I have gone to the majority of games for quite some time including some very ugly and depressing seasons.

Great job seniors and THANKS for all the hard work and many fond memories--i.e. beating Minnesota, Eastern Washington, etc...!!! Best of luck to all of you in the future!!!!

I agree--let's cultivate a culture where we show up no matter who we are playing. We KNOW that there is at least one team that we are very interested in watching (USD)--who cares who is on the opposite sideline. In this case, it is likely we will see the team we are interested in have success, which is what we want to see. Plus, in this case Coyote fans should be interested in honoring our seniors. It is unfortunate that we have a home game during a three-day weekend for the students.

Game is underway. Blount returned the kick to the 40 and the Yotes have moved into Miners territory. First and 10 at the 12 yard line

Not much drama left in this one.

That wasn't a good second quarter, but man, does Kevin Robb have a leg.

After disappearing in the second quarter, USD returned in the second half and beat Missouri S&T 48-14. According to Jeremy Hoeck's twitter, this ensures USD's first winning season since 2008. USD was a perfect 6-0 at home, granted that did include Missouri S&T, Lindenwood and NW Okie State, but add Eastern Washington, SUU and UC Ddavis to that.

What is interesting is that if the Yotes lose next week they will finish 6-0 at home and 0-5 on the road. That is very interesting. Is that considered a successfull season or not?
It would be a 3-3 record vs FCS teams, 3-0 at home and 0-3 on the road.
