After watching Will Powell throughout his career and thinking about some of the great Coyote receivers throughout the last couple of decades I really do believe that Powell is the best wide receiver in the history of the program.
If we want to start a friendly and lively debate on a topic this seems like a great one to tackle.
Powell seems like a good kid just the way he interviews. He seems humble. On the field though he is money. I don't think I have ever seen a wide receiver at any level that makes the types of catches that he does.
Gearman may have been the fastest wide receiver ever but Powell to me seems like he could have a shot to play in the NFL. I am not sure what his pure foot speed is but there are likely alot of guys faster. His knack to make catches is second to none in Coyote lore IMO but I could also be mistaken or forgotten about somebody. Powell just seems to have great instints and intanglibles.
I think he has been under-utilized as a Coyote. He should have gotten twice as many targets as he has gotten so far. I am also unsure how much of a route runner he has been asked to be. If he can develop this part of his game I don't see why Sundays can't be in his future.

Yeah, 37 catches is not enough for him. He should have 60 catches and I think that's some of the routes he is forced to run in the offense. He should be getting 10 targets a game with at least 5 catches a game. That should be designed in the offense.

Here's an interesting twist in the discussion. What kind of numbers would Powell have if we had a true "pocket" passer? We've had a litany of dual threat QBs recently going back to Wesley. Before that only Ryan Justice and Peter Martin stand out as more traditional "passing" QBs. Nothing against JVM but I wonder what a USD offense with a QB like Lincoln's Alex Shultz would look like...

Powell better get about 12 balls at least to him today. It's a crime he has not been used more than he has.
Go Yotes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not much interest in this topic I guess?
Anyway, I don't know what the stats say but Dwight Duncomb was the best I saw. He was a bit like the Viking's Cris Carter: All he did was catch touchdowns.
Of course he'd always put on a show afterwards. (TD celebration!)
