Well, it was a tough fought game, but it seemed after an early deficit, SDSU came charging back and controlled the game just enough to beat USD. It definitely was a lot better than the men's game and SDSU is always the team to beat in the Summit, so it was disappointing not to give SDSU its first loss of the year in the conference. Hopefully things are different in the Dome. From what I know, Hegge was in foul trouble for most of the game and Jill Young got hot late I guess. Tempest Wilson had a good game, just needed more offense elsewhere.

All in all I think the Yotes played hard and bounced back pretty well after the NDSU game. I think despite some recent setbacks that we are catching SDSU. In Vermillion SDSU won't have the crowd to feed off of like USD will.
I think USD played well but once against just has trouble scoring. Next year I expect the scoring touch to improve but the interior defense will take a major hit losing Hegge and Boss. USD has now gone through the toughest part of the schedule now. Aside from going to Oral Roberts every other game should definately be winnable from here on out. It would be nice if the Yotes could bounce back to finish .500 or better in the league. They are learning from their setbacks and will hopefully be better because of it.

I didn't get a chance to go to the game or listen to much of it on the radio as I was coaching a game myself, but it sounds like is was at least an exciting game. USD made a game of it. However, USD needs some help from the bench. Teams can't hold the bench scoreless. Somebody needs to be able to step in and give the first 5 a break. They can't nor shouldn't be expected to score all the points if USD expects to compete.
Also, I read the attendance was right around 3300. I guess I can say I expected more people to be there.

Jacks fan here. I went to the game last night. Here's a few random thoughts.
I have only seen Hegge play three times and once was the DII championship on TV. I have always been impressed with her game. She was definetely the best player on the court.
The starting 5 for the Yotes are as athletic as any team in the Summit, however they have no depth, and their jump shooting is pretty poor. If they shoot better in the Dome, they can pull off the upset.
I don't see how the 'Yotes will be better next year. The Jacks lose Young and Sunnaborg, so we may struggle next year as well. It will be interesting to see how both teams develop their underclassmen.

Losing Hegge and Boss will be very difficult. USD used them to their advantage as much as the men used Tyler Cain. Very similar players as far as the effect they had on their team. The men honestly still have not recovered from losing his inside presence.
Williams has always had the fortune of having an elite player such as Hegge at his disposal. Having her and Boss completely changes the way he can approach his game planning. She simply makes the team better on both ends of the court. I believe we will find out in the next couple of years exactly what Ryun Williams is as a coach from both a recruiting perspective and a coaching perspective. The Hoff girl from Brandon sure does seem to be for real so it's nice that is coming South to join the team. Her offense will be much needed as will offense from the other recruits as well. Coach Williams knows how to coach defense no doubt. It seems much harder to coach offense. Either the kids can make shots or they can't. It's more of a natural gift than it is a coachable gift. That is not to say offense can't be coached up, just not the extent that defense can.
If we can maintain the defensive side of the ball and the offense comes around the women can be very good where they don't have to take a backseat to anyone in the Summit. The thing is, as long as the Yotes can keep defending like they do, they will always be in games.
