First of all I would like to congratulate coach Boots and his staff for there efforts the last few games. Boots has tried a couple of different things with the team. These actions at least renew my faith in the coaching staff that they are willing to try different things to find the right fit for this team and this conference. The team is still struggling, but at least there is a flicker of hope with different strategies being tried. I am a little concerned by the post game press conference though. Louie appeared to be taking this defeat particularly hard. There is no doubt that he had a tough game. All players will have a bad game now and then ( unfortunately USD players seem to be blessed with more than their fare share). The body language and emotions that Louie displayed during that interview make me wonder if these men are being pushed over the edge. I get a sense of emotional burnout when talking with most of these young men. I am not sure what leads to this point, but I am positive that no win or loss is worth making these young men feel that much pressure. They are at USD on an athletic scholarship and need to take that very seriously. These young men are also in college and need to enjoy that stage of their life. Hopefully their college years are some of the most memorable years of their life. There is no doubt that it is a fine line between pressure to preform and enjoying the experience of college basketball. If these young men are not enjoying the game, chances of getting a top performance from them is slim at best. Louie does not look as if he is enjoying his basketball experience much at all. Is there a reason that Brandon Boss does not play? I would think that if he could come in and replace Louie for short periods of time to give Louie a break (and maybe make a bucket or two) it would take some of the pressure off. Brandon has been in some games early on in the season and has scored and did not look that bad. I am assuming that he will see allot of time next year, so the more minutes he gets this year the better for next.

Some of your past posts have suggested that maybe Boots is not pushing them far enough and they are not giving their all ... that adds to the pressure...

Some of your past posts have suggested that maybe Boots is not pushing them far enough and they are not giving their all ... that adds to the pressure... I agree with your statement that I have indicated that boots was not getting a 100 percent effort from these men, and needed to get them with the program. It just appears to me that his methods of getting a 110 percent effort out of these men is not working. It seems that the team has not responded to his style of motivation and is shutting down. Every player on that team should feel bad about a bad game or a loss, but I would hope it would only be to the point of wanting to try harder next time. Hopefully I totally misread Louie in that press conference. I will be the first to admit that my post have been somewhat negative. I catch myself questioning weather I should make some of these statements or not. I prefer to try to keep things positive and have not followed that theme as of late. I am of the feeling that this D 1 transition is a make or break step for USD. I think that this team of men should be able to help USD get going in the right direction, but it has not been looking good so far. Maybe I am putting to much weight in just one season, but I think our recruiting ability will be severely impacted by it. I am also worried that if these players are not getting a feeling of pride in USD and respect from the coaching staff, we will lose the players we have to transfer. Losing is always tough, but losing and having 100 percent confidence in your leader is a whole lot easer. I just do not get that feeling right now.

You are right, it is make or break, and the negative stuff isn't bad, but when you question the mental toughness of the team and then you say you feel bad for Louie, there is also a time to admit when you are wrong and say the team is giving it all it has, plain and simple. The only one I wonder about is Charlie Westbrook, that is about it.

Little Yote, Say what you have to say as you see it. I certaintly don't want a sensored down version. When the team has only won 2 conference games so far saying the truth is going to naturally come out as negative. The Yotes have been playing better as of late but there is still along ways to go to be where we need to be. The energy level has gone up at home so we will see if they can bring that same intensity on the road with them.

I really think Louie just took the loss really hard. He didn't shoot well and was taking the blame himself. He was very upset with himself about how he shot. I would guess that is what the problem was.

Someone recently posted that when it all is aired, these young men (and women) are still just that. Young men and young women. Many of us don't realize the price they pay to wear that jersey and represent USD. They want to win as much as anyone sitting in the bleachers, and I would bet more than that. Sometimes teams "gel" and get W's, and sometimes they don't, and as a result, end up with more L's then they want. If you are an athlete with any competive blood you hate losing......period. But it happens from time to time.
I don't think anyone would disagree this has not been a typical Dave Boots team. Physically speaking, we just don't match up. To be honest, I am surprised we have as many wins as we do. Past teams have been very physical, this one just doesn't have that yet. I have stated before and I would stand by it, that Coach Boots looks wired and tired. There might be a disconnect between him and players, and if so, then that is something that has to be fixed. But i am not ready to throw this team under the bus, or Dave Boots out the door just yet. I have watched Louie for as many years as you all have, and to say that he isn't competitive or want to win is ridiculous. He wants to win as much as anyone.
The Summit League is far better competition than we all thought it would be. I feel like Coach Boots has earned that right to get them there. As we move forward, I think it is very apparent that we need bigger and stronger inside guys that can play physical. Trevor is working his ass off and I bet he is absolutely pooped at the end of a game.
To all the men and women wearing Coyote Red, thank you from me for the effort you put out on a daily basis. We do appreciate your efforts. You are good people.

I thought this year would be a decent year for USD. They do have some senior leadership that has been proven. I was more worried about how they would be next year and the year after that. I know that Boots used to get some players that came from juco's. I don't know if the move to DI will change that or not. DI men's basketball is much tougher that DII. The women's game is a step up but the men's game is a few steps up. When you are in transition, you can schedule several cream puffs so your record looks good but really you might not be that good. The Summit league has some good teams and it will take a few years for USD to catch up. It just depends on how patient the fans and more importantly the admin are with some of the coaches. Can the coaches handle a few losing seasons while they right the ship? I guess we'll just have to see how it all plays out.
