It might be a small one but almost everyone said that there was no way that the Coyotes would finish last in the Summit. With the Coyotes in 8th place one game ahead of IPFW and UMKC (with the two playing each other in the last game) USD has clinched at least a share of 8th place in the conference. A win over Oakland gives the Yotes 8th outright and a loss would gaurantee a tie with the UMKC vs IPFW winner. Considering where the Yotes were a couple of months ago or less a 6-12 Summit League record doesn't look so bad if they beat Oakland. With a win the Coyotes would finish with a winning home record in the conference.
If South Dakota was eligible this year they would be playing for a spot in the conference tourney on Saturday. I believe even if they were to lose they would win the tiebreakers for the 8th seed. Not quite sure on that one.

Yea, the win over SDSU would be the one that would give them the tiebreaker over either UMKC or IPFW.

While I see what you are saying here I would say the Yotes are far, far from their goal. The goal of any top program is not to just make the conference tourney or have a winning conference record, that's just squeeking by, the goal should be to dominate the conference. Dominate the way Duke does the ACC, or Kansas does the Big 12. Top dog in the conference, the one that runs the playground. This is what USD's goal should be in both basketball and football, anything less is accepting mediocrity.
Winners don't get to be winners by accepting mediocrity.
Still, I guess it's a good first baby step.
