Well, after a few upsets it looks like SDSU has an easier path to the Dance. WIU upset ORU to advance to the championship game.
Jacks were lucky this year as their path was made easier due to upsets by SUU (over NDSU) and now WIU. Heck, ORU was almost knocked out the first round by IPFW, the team that took the Yotes spot in the tourney since we were not eligible.
I guess anything can happen come tournament time.

Leathernecks vs Rednecks - maybe a bit harsh. Still not sure about how I feel about the game tonight. A touch of SD pride says cheer for the local team and were they playing ORU I would definitely be cheering for the Bunnies.

Leathernecks. Beat a #1 and #2. This will be much easier to stomach. lets remember that the SUmmit becomes a MUCH more watered down league when ORU and Oakland leave. State brings back all but 1 guy- they will be very clear preseason #1 next season. Lets prolong this and cheer for the 'Necks- I predict a WIU win.

Anyone cheering for the Jacks are cheering against the Yotes by default. True Yote fans do not cheer for SDSU or they were never a big enough part of the rivalry of past days. When the Jacks have success it just makes them all the more likely to grow their fan base even more to potential neutral fans that could potentially cheer for the Yotes
The SDSU success means one more player that would be more likely to choose to go to SDSU over USD. The better the SDSU program does the more it hurts USD. SDSU is already looked upon more favorably than USD around this state and everytime something like this happens it just reinforced that notion. USD has been playing second fiddle to the Jacks for way too long now. The Jacks are now more accomplished in all three major sports. They have NCAA playoff births for all of their big three sports now. How many years will we be able to say the same at USD?
I am pissed **f that the Jacks won tonight. Any true Yote fan should think the same. Jacks fans wanted USD to disappear from the College Athletic scene when they went D1. The Jacks basically have everything going for them.
The Summit league tourney, organizers, sponcers etc may never truley look at USD as an even entity. SDSU will likely always be considered to host the tourney with USD just tagging along. When it comes to game times, selection of which days to play etc if there is ever a school choice to be made SDSU will always get to choose first.
This is a crappy night to be a Coyote Fan.

You may want to notify the league; and the Oakland coach, AD, etc.

I, for one, am fine with the Jacks winning. NDSU didn't all of a sudden take the world over when they won in their first try and in fact are still trying to get back to the conference championship game since that win. Bottom line, recruiting is always difficult, but it is not impossible. I feel the excitement and atmosphere that is created by this can actually help when it comes to recruiting to USD and the conference.
As far as home court advantage, this will clearly be the last year that State gets to enjoy it to the level they have to this point. I doubt that we will see more Coyote red than State blue in many of the sessions, but the fact remains that every Yote fan that buys a ticket will be one less Jack fan to give them the home court. And there will be Yote fans there, that I can guarantee.

Was happy the SDSU women won, that opens up a spot for USD women in WNIT maybe. As for men, not excited in fact it gave me the flu, but State is enjoying the success mostly because of Nate W. He is a special player and carrying SDSU. Without him, they are average. He did not play well last night, but it's hard to argue how good he is. Glad next year will be his last year. State will have a hard time replacing him- anyone would. Minnesota should be kicking themselves they didn't recruit him.

This is what I got out of the championship game. I honestly haven't seen the Jacks in person or on TV until last night. With what I have been hearing with how much more talented they are than USD, I am not so sure their is as big of a gap as I was led to believe. They didn't look all that athletic or ultra talented to me, at least not compared to Western Illinois. I saw equal talent on the court from both sides. Other than Walters no one stood out as a player that is much better than the average Summit League player. Westbrook, Saint Gelais, Gruis etc all look as athletic. Maybe not as good of basketball players but USD winning in Vermillion against them wasn't as much of a fluke as SDSU fans would like to believe.
The Jacks can have their tourney but they still can't claim a win in Vermillion and that goes for men and women. I honestly believe the Jackrabbit women are very lucky they didn't have to play USD. I can't really say the same for the men but the Jacks had this tourney practically handed to them with the home crowd advantage and only having to beat the #7, #6 and #4 seeds to make it through. They had alot of good breaks including having some very fortunate bounces on the rims and probably got away with more fouls than WIU did.

I thought WIU pissed it away. They were up by 10 in the second half and were shutting down SDSU offensively. SDSU couldn't get a decent look WIU was playing so well defensively. WIU offensively, however, brutal. They couldn't make an open shot, a layup, or a free throw to save their lives. The lead should have extended from 10 to about 18-20, instead they let SDSU whittle it down to nothing.
USD will get their chance starting next year. We just have to be patient.
