Amy's sister, Emilee (Gusso) Thiesse, is an assistant women's basketball coach for SDSU. Should make for some interesting family gatherings.

Looks like a promising hire to me--Successful D1 and head coach experience. Pure speculation, but looks like she could be successful in retaining current players and recruits.

A great hire in my opinion. SD roots and excellent overall BBall pedigree.

Looks good to me. Right age, right background, to be a great recruiter.

Man oh man less than 100 total words of chatter after the announcement of the new coach of the program most likely to succeed on a regional/national level that is somewhat high profile in nature. We can do better than that Coyote Fans, MUCH better than that. After track and field and maybe before, Women's basketball has a chance to be the most successfull program at South Dakota.
I think Amy Williams seems like a great hire to me. She is highly thought of, young and a proven winner. At Rogers State her teams got incrementally better each season under her guidance. She made the national tourney her last two years including a final 8 during her most recent season. Good stuff. She has D1 playing experience, D1 assistant coaching experience and D1 recruiting experience. Something worth taking a slight gamble on. I think her floor isn't very low but her ceiling is extremely high. She comes off well in her press conference. I think the players will relate well to her and play hard for her. Once against the small committees at USD that are in charge of hiring seem to have gotten it right again this time. Time will tell.

I think it will be interesting to see what happens. She has coached at different levels and done well wherever she has been. From an outsider, both her and coach Glenn look like they should be good hires. They both have something that you can look at and question, she doesn't have head coaching experience at the DI level and coach Glenn might not be around very long, but the positives out way the negatives. I think hiring coaches is a little like recruiting, everybody you get looks good but until they are a couple years into it, you don't know exactly what you have.

It appears that there is a great deal of upside to this young lady, and very little downside. Now she has to get it done.
