We are under 6 months, so I felt it was time to hear the phrase......"Let's get ready to rumble..."
That's right, 160 days from today the Yotes go to CAS and take on the Jacks. The intent is to start talking about the game, matchups, strengths and weaknesses. A little smack is welcome and invited, but keep it funny and not personal.
1st Matchup: COACHING
Tough call to make ONLY because our head coach might have a little rust. More of a concern in early season game. Stig has taken the Jacks to the playoffs, but lately has been less than stellar. If it comes down to coaching, I take the Coyotes.

I personally think the athletes are a little better on the Yotes or at least have been but the Jacks players have been better coached and more disciplined. The 2005 Yotes had better talent on offense than the Jacks had as a D1 program.
If the coaching is going to equal of exceed SDSU I think the Yotes are going to surpass the Jacks in football. I am hoping Stig does just well enough to keep his job.
When it comes to the new coaching staff and new team in general I am going to measure the team how they do on the road. The dome will create and advantage naturally but the road will not create the buzz for the Yotes and it will be up to just the players and coaches to see what they are made of. Lets face it the old Yotes would crumble on the road at the first sign of adversity. The new regime needs to drastically reduce the gap of home vs road performance. The Yotes will not truley be a good team until they play better away from the dome. In my mind that is 80% of what I will use to measure up South Dakota football.

Sure, coaching is huge, but think about when the game is. late in the season, both teams will know for sure where they stand in the MVFC. that might mean more on the field then anything else.

SKILL POSITIONS
OK FANS, NOW IS THE TIME TO START COMPARING THE SKILL PLAYERS ON BOTH TEAMS. I UNDERSTAND USD IS A BIT MORE OF AN UNKNOWN, BUT LET'S TAKE A STAB AT IT.

I never did like those shirts when they first came out.
OK, yeah "HA HA" funny gag, but literally, it makes no sense. And no need to bring them out 8 years later when the reference will be lost on every student.
Think of something clever, both student bodies.

I'm sure those people will be asked to remove/turn them inside out or they'll probably be asked to leave. This type of crap is why many of us didn't want anything to do with USD anymore.

That type of crap is why many of you guys didn't want anything to do with USD anymore?? COME ON MAN! If the shoe was on the other foot you're telling me that all the SDSU students would have been choir boys and not done a thing about it??? GET REAL!

And no need to bring them out 8 years later when the reference will be lost on every student. Think of something clever, both student bodies. Fred Oien was a classless act that no athletic director should ever act like, so I was okay with it. An Athletic Director should NEVER EVER EVER publicly bash a rival school like he did and just bash them at conference meetings. The good news is Oien wasn't as bad as the Penn State AD....so there is that. So I am sorry, he is the one person that deserved this. i am usually not for those type of shirts, which is about the same as shaking bags of sugar at D.J. Strawberry for being Daryl's son which was over the line, but Oien was completely classless. That being said, the shirts don't have any place in the renewed rivalry. Justin Sell is a standup guy, IMO. It may be a rivalry, but Sell has been great for SDSU just like David Sayler has been great for USD. Both schools are way past what happened then so those shirt should be retired. The take an old friend out for lunch one was great and, uh, classy as much as a joke like that can be, so time to move on with that and leave the old shirts behind.

I think some SDSU fans made way to big of a deal out of the shirt. Then again some SDSU fans got a laugh out of it, not because they didn't like Mr. Oien, but more of a realization that it was some college kids just being college kids.
But I guess nothing is gained by opening up old wounds, so I deleted my earlier post related to the infamous t-shirt.
Time for a new era, but no way will I give up on saying "Hate State", especially when echoed in reply to "Screw the U"

It appears that Coach Glenn has requested Board of Regents approval of his game plan against the Bunnies per the attached agenda for the BOR meeting in Vermillion on Oct 9-11. www.sdbor.edu/theboard/agenda/2012/October.htm (see the last item on the agenda for the Budget & Finance Committee)

Jacksfan walks into the room carrying a sheep. "This is the pig I screw on those nights you have a headache" His wife says "That's a sheep you idiot!" Jacksfan says "I was talking to the sheep!"
