The agreement with Sioux Falls has been renewed for 5 additional years with an option for an additional 5 years. Great news for both SDSU who brought the tournament to Sioux Falls and USD who will not in effect have semi-home court advantage in the tournament.

I don't know, some people in Vermillion are probably upset that it is in Sioux Falls...

As positive news as this it for USD, I am amazed it took two days for any USD fan to comment in any manner.

As positive news as this it for USD, I am amazed it took two days for any USD fan to comment in any manner. It is great news, but given the fact we haven't experienced the actual tournament itself (other than the past couple to support you guys), combined with expectations that probably don't put us in "the hunt", and still reeling from what has been a brutal and disappointing season in football, people right now just aren't excited. I for one am pleased as punch the tournament stays in SF. It's a great deal for both schools. Our fan base needs to lick its wounds and get back to being positive about the future of Coyote athletics.

Gorabbits, I decided to hold off on commenting when I read "SDSU who brought the tournament to Sioux Falls..." I didn't know SDSU was taking credit for that now. Thought that was credited to the SF Sports Authority?

Yotefan, I see your point.
However, do you think the SF Sports Authority would have brought the conference tournament to Sioux Falls if SDSU was not in the conference?

As positive news as this it for USD, I am amazed it took two days for any USD fan to comment in any manner. Maybe because with Oral Roberts moving out of the conference, the only thing I am surprised about this is that it wasn't announced sooner. Was this suppose to be a surprise with the new events center coming in? Figured it was a done deal.

Gorabbits, I decided to hold off on commenting when I read "SDSU who brought the tournament to Sioux Falls..." I didn't know SDSU was taking credit for that now. Thought that was credited to the SF Sports Authority? Perhaps I did intentionally add that comment for a reminder, but clearly the tournament would not have been here for the past 4 years without SDSU being in the Summit League. And clearly a 5 year commitment would not have been made for the future if SDSU fans had not supported the tournament with record setting attendance numbers. And I believe if you were to check, you would find that clearly stated by the Summit League. In fact I believe SDSU has been listed in the past as the co-host. Certainly the Sioux Falls Sports Authority deserves the credit for the vision to pursue the tournament and the work to make it a success (I have volunteered in the past.) But SDSU deserves the credit for making if possible for the SFSA to even pursue the opportunity. I have attended almost every session all four years and urge Coyote fans to do the same. It truly is a remarkable environment for the Summit League and an outstanding opportunity for both schools as we move to the future.

I've been to at least one Summit League tournament game in SF the past 4 years. I haven't been to nearly all of them like you, due to employment obligations, but I don't recall hearing Commissioner Douple ever once say we owe our record setting attendance solely to SDSU. The same can be said for Mike Sullivan of the SFSA. There's been a lot of help from non-partisan and interested local sports fans (like me) and more than a few interested NDSU fans.
You're Bunny Blinders are a little thick gorabbits, but I will concede this: without SDSU [some] of the great things that have happened with this tournament would not have been possible. To attribute [all] of these positive things to SDSU however is a very debatable point and one I think reasonable minds would agree on.
DD, I wish you'd change your handle, but hope that answers your question too.
One final thought, the longer a "local" team (read as USD, SDSU, NDSU, or UNO) can stay in the tournament, the better off those attendance numbers will be going forward down the road. Gorabbits, I believe I share your sentiment in that it's likely our collective hope that SF becomes the long-term home of this tournament.

I skipped over commenting on this for the same reason, this thread was going to end up in the smack section if I responded.
You Rabbits sure are pretty full of yourselves.

I don't know, some people in Vermillion are probably upset that it is in Sioux Falls... Last I checked the Summit Tournament is not a USD home game. If you can't tell the difference and still don't understand what people are upset about I really can't help you. I can say the events of this football season, how things have unfolded, and the animosity over this game have effectively killed any excitement for Coyote football for many down here. I haven't seen a lack of excitment for this program this bad since the days of Coach Rankin, for perspective.

Obviously no objective posters on this topic. Yotefan - you are one of my best friends, but I have to disagree on this one.
SDSU absolutely deserves credit for the success of the tournament. Their fans have been fantastic. The real success probably lies with the women's BB team as they were the ones that really allowed the large crowds. But we also can't forget NDSU deserves some credit too. They won the first men's tournament. I was there. There was a lot of green from Fargo in attendance. Now there were a lot of casual USD and other fans in attendance too. It's not like SDSU was 100% the crowd.
But I also think the reason the tournament is staying in SF 5 more or even 10 more years is because BOTH USD and SDSU are tournament active now. The sponsors see a sea of red and blue next year.
What this decision really did was solidify that Oakland will be looking asap to leave the league. I have gone to almost every game when it has been in SF, and talked to the Oakland administration at least 3 different times. He absolutely hates all the blue in the stands. He was pretty vocal about it. He made comments about "when you guys (meaning USD)" get in the league it will be a little better at bipartisan crowd, but he still considers it a home court advantage for both USD and SDSU.
That does mean a little uncertainty for the league down the road. We'll see maybe a UND or St Cloud is the next to join the league.
All I know is anyone who says the attendance records are not because of SDSU is a little blinded by reality. Let's all hope the crowd this year sets new records. Half the place being red and half blue is expected. The biggest question mark is how much green is there.

Agreed USDlaw. A lot of credit has to go to SDSU and NDSU for this.
Also, in terms of Oakland...Oral Roberts left for those same reasons and I think Oakland is jealous that they are not totally top dogs either and have to fight for it.
I guess the O in their names stands for egO
