Any body out there that can give us a little insight on what things look like? Local news stories are not giving a real good picture (not happy with coverage in the paper). Always nice to get a fans perspective that has seen the game. Coaching staff had indicated in early remarks before the season that they were going to try a few new things this year (rotate more players, spread scoring out amongst more players, no mention of a defensive change but we can only hope, lol). Just am excited to hear from a live fan.

Wyoming wins it 71-51 in what was a very lackluster performance by the Coyotes. I was listening sometimes with half attention at best. It really seemed as if the perimeter defense was poor in this one.
NC Central beat Southern by 4 today so an 0-3 week is certainly possible. NC Central gave Wyoming a better game than what SD did as well. I believe they lost by closer to 10. The Yotes were never really in the game. Wyoming started up 10-0 and the Yotes never recovered. I don't know if the Yotes have led all season. If so it hasn't been by more than a few seconds.
This has been a moderately to extrememly bad start to the season. I am sure Boots is gonna be very angry in his post game comments. He wasn't happy yesterday so today is not going to be pretty either.

So far the big three sports at USD are a combined 2-13 in their first year of eligibility. I thought things were supposed to get better after transition. I don't know if our big three have ever started that poorly in the D1 era. Well since football hasn't started that poorly the definate answer is no.

Here are Boots' comments
Wyoming good defensive team, especially on inside. Yotes were more disciplined in their play but the result was the same. Defensively not bad, 45% for Wyoming. Battled tough on the boards. Wyoming one of the better defensive teams they will play all year.
Got beat by 20 and just not getting it done. Toughness was there, execution was not. Not a great start to the year but at least the players played with toughness tonight. Gotta learn how to win and we're not doing it right now.
NC Central is active and quick. Gonna press, trap, play full court.
Boot's wasn't as angry as I thought he would be tonight.

Since you have been reasonable as of late, I won't make the obvious claim. But my question to you is this. Should Boots stay?

I do have to ask....how long will it take to come up with a defensive system that does work...since it really hasn't worked since the D-II days....

Since you have been reasonable as of late, I won't make the obvious claim. But my question to you is this. Should Boots stay? Usually I am in "win now mode" but I am going to give the Women's basketball team alot more lee-way than some of the sports. Amy Williams has a huge task at hand and has about a third of her team decimated with injuries which is very difficult to overcome. I want to see moderate success but can understand some struggled there. Football, we can disagree until the cows come home (fitting statement for this week, huh). Obviously Joe Glenn deserves a little time to get his players in but that doesn't explain what is likely to be a 1-10 season. I truly believe that some of Joe Glenn's stubborness, loyalty to a T and old fashion ways has hurt this team initially, to the point where alot of what is going on is on his shoulders. Coaches ideally want the players that fit their schemes but good coaches can generally take the talent they have and mold it into at least a respectable team. As far as Boot's is concerned this has been the hardest one for me to call. He is a good guy and dedicated to his job. I like the no nonsense attitdue I have heard from him this year. On the other hand some of his tactics drive me nuts. I don't understand why so many players get into his doghouse. I don't understand why he shortens the bench every year. I don't understand why he seeminly wastes scholarships on players that don't seem to belong. Even in D2 that was the case. By playing such a short bench it makes it very difficult to be competive when several games are played in a short timeframe. Because of the vital importance to the season of the Summit League tourney and playing potentially 3 games in 4 days it is almost imperative to go at least 9 deep with players that are playing double digit minutes. Some people say that Scott Nagy struggles early and figured it out. That is nice but that doesn't mean that Boots will follow the same path. He didn't struggle as badly as SDSU did initially but do we honestly see a team in the making that has the ability to improve to the point of being the favorite to win the Summit League. I think we may be getting better but that is a long ways off yet. As tough as it is to make a decision and as much fence leaning as I have done on this topic I still can't get clarity what the best way to go should be. I guess it all kind of depends on who the replacement would be. Most USD people seem to want Joey James. I would say put it up to a complete and total national search when this decision needs to be made. I will just put my trust in David Saylor to make the call on this. So far he has flopped on the football hiring. That could turn around but it's a major bust with Joe Glenn so far.

I find the comments on Boots as very accurate also. You cant argue with his success, but this is a different level of play and he needs to adjust with it or I am afraid it may cost him his job. His defensive tactics are not working at this level. The main reason other teams have unbelievably hot shooting nights is because there players are wide open when they shot. I think it would be a very safe bet to say that if he does not give up the zone in d1 he will probable never have a successful season again.

Nagy turned it around because he recruited a kid named Walters. A kid no other d-1 offered. do you think that SDSU will be any good when he leaves, and dont forget SDSU has not won a regular season championship. They won the tournament at home beating the 7th seed, the 6th seed and the 5th seed in overtime. How good the SDSU program has gotten will be determined next year. As ndsu had one great class, they haven't won a summit league tourney game since that class left. No way you should compare Boots to Nagy yet. Boots will do a good job. You don't win all the games he has won without knowing what your doing.

Boots won in the North Central Conference which isn't a bad accomplishment but not necessarily a great accomplishment. Over the last 20 years of it's existance the NCC was one of the most overrated basketball conferences in the nation. The NCC almost never had good national success. Boots was good in that conference but I look at the Summit League as a different animal than the NCC. The Summit is actually kind of under-rated nationally. Over Boot's 20+ years in D2 the furthest his teams ever made it was the final 8 twice and final 16 a couple of more times but other than that the Yotes just could never consistantly make it much past the boundaries of their conference when it came to success. Boot's will have to adjust his style of coaching to have success. He sounds dedicated on the radio but recently the team just hasn't been able to get it going.
I could go either way as to whether we should go in a different direction. I am certainly open to arguments either way.
