Listening to the Yotes play Gonzaga right now and I have to say, this is without question THE BEST radio broadcast I have ever heard for a Coyotes sporting event. Not only can you tell exactly what is going on, who just got beat on a play, who had a good look from what part of the court, etc...there are even descriptions of the basketball arena, those in attendance (i.e. John Stockton and the fact his son plays for the Zags), history about the schools, coaches, records, details of the players (i.e. Gruis' jersey untucked, colors of the uniforms, etc...). It is a Learfield Sports broadcast and this guy (haven't heard his name yet) is on his game and has done a terrific job. Knows who the players are and doesn't need time to figure out who just shot the ball or who is shooting, providing scores from around the NFL...good grief. Smooth, professional, well researched and sounds like a real D-1 broadcast. Even though we are getting beat by a great team, this is a pleasure to listen to. Looking forward to tuning in to more road games.

PS- David Herbster had the Learfield deal for USD worked out long before our State friends up north started working on their agreement, State just cut the press release before USD did (imagine that). Once again, USD had to pave the way for the Bunnies. Gosh, now I sound like Jerry Nachtigal in the Argus the other day saying USD is no longer a rival. =) Hopefully the blood-letting yesterday will satiate some of those goofballs and common sense can now prevail.

Looking forward to tuning in to more road games. His name is Jerry Schimmel and he is the Voice of the Denver Nuggets of the NBA and Colorado Rockies of Major League Baseball. He is related to John Schimmel who was just named as a fund raiser for the USD Athletic Department and he is originally from Madison, SD. We were able to get him to do a couple games for us since Joe needed to be back for the State-U Football game and travel logistics. On a side note, Jerry was one of the survivors on Flight 232 in Sioux City a number of years ago. Although I have not had the pleasure to hear him speak about it, he has done motivational speaking engagements about the experience in the past. Thank you for your help Jerry and good luck to you in the future! Rod Pattison

I heard that there was a broadcaster that survived that crash and I think that is why that name seems familiar to me. I like the Colorado teams second to Minnesota when it comes to pro and college sports.

It's Jerry Schemmel...his nephew is Jon, a relative newcomer to your athletic administration: Jon is a USD Assistant Athletic Director and Director of Development. Jerry is a Madison native and was assistant Continental Basketball League commish on that ill-fated flight that crashed in Sioux City. The book he wrote about that flight is a good one. He's part of the broadcast crew for the Colorado Rockies AND Colorado State and was the voice of the Denver Nuggets before going over to the Rockies. He's a consummate pro and a good guy. If nephew Jon can get him to fill in once in a while for your broadcasts, you're in for a treat. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerry_Schemmel
