First opponent Western Illinois
Here are some of their pertinant results.
Lost at home to Missouri S&T 61-60 (if we were mad at the close game to Culver Stockton, try this one on for size)
Lost at SIU-Edwardsville 62-50
Won vs Buffalo 67-58 (in Evansville,IN)
Lost at Evansville 49-44
Won vs Yale 59-47 (in Oakland City,IN)
Lost at Savannah State 39-38 (what kind of a game was that)
Western Illinois is not exactly a team running on all cylinders right now. This is a very winnable game.
Second Opponent IUPUI
Here are some of their pertinant results
Won home vs Utah Valley 67-54
Lost at Michigan 91-54
Won vs Bowling Green 80-66 (in Ann Arbor,MI)
Lost home vs Bradley 79-72
Lost vs North Texas 80-66 (in Charlotteville,VA)
Lost vs Lamar 86-82 (in Charlottesville,VA)
Maybe 1 or 2 decent wins in there but I wouldn't call that lighting the world on fire.
If the Coyotes come out and play good sound basketball there is no reason that they couldn't beat both teams. We should all expect no worse than one win out of these two games. If the Yotes go 0-2 I think it is fair to be more than just a bit concerned for the rest of the year. If the Yotes go 2-0 than their is legitimate reason for optimism. Either way these are games against what I would think would be mid level Summit teams this year.

I know Western Illinois was very scrappy during the Summit League Tournament last year. Their defense was impressive. Looks like their roster is very different this year - wonder if stylistically we will see the same intensity.
Should learn a lot about USD over the next two games.

Let's not confuse things here, fellas: Western Illinois, even though its at 3-3, is still an extremely solid defensive team. Go back and look at the preseason all conference list and then come back here and tell us what you see. Ceola Clark, if not for Nate Wolters, might be the best guard in the Summit League. I'm curious to see how the USD youngsters do against a defense like that; probably see a score in the 50s

In the two games with W. Illinois last year, the Coyotes scored 45 and 46 points and lost one game by a point and got smoked in the other game. Western played great defense last year and had State on the ropes in Tourney finals. Be there!!

WIU's starting five consists of four seniors and a junior, so they're seasoned. PG Ceola Clark is complemented nicely by Terell Parks in the middle. Parks is a scoring and rebounding beast. See: WIU's lead supporting cast includes Adam Link, 6’6” junior; Don McAvoy III, 6’6” senior; and Jack Houpt, 6’7” senior. Link is the team's third-leading scorer, and Houpt is very comfortable pulling the trigger from behind the arc, where he is 6 of 18 on the season. This would be a huge win for USD. Go Yotes!

Say what you want but Western Illinois has not really had a quality win and has some losses that are bigger fire alarms than what USD has taken this season. USD should be able to win this game on their home court. Western Illinois really hasn't done much other than a nice run at the Summit tourney. It's not going to be an easy win for USD but people better be expecting USD to pull out a victory in this game. Boot's said so himself. The time to win is NOW. So if he said that we should also think that. If the Yotes don't show improvement throught the conference season and finish 5-11 or 4-12 this year in the Summit than I do agree with CF#2 and think it's time to re-evaluate and look at our options for a change.
I remain open to what is the best path to go down for the Mens Team.

Coyote fan I see you picked us to beat West Ill but lose to iupuipuipuipui. I'm going with two close victories in the dome. Road games are a challenge but I expect to win at the dome regardless of opponent.

Another Coyote game this year and yet another loss this time in Mens Hoops to Western Illinois. To the Coyotes credit they didn't give up and kept coming back but everytime the game was truly on the line Western Illinois always came up bigger than the Yotes including most of their important late game free throws. The Coyotes tied the game with 5.6 seconds left but WIU made a short runner at the buzzer that was review and called good. No moral victories this year. This should have been a win IMO. WIU was not playing that well coming into this game. Saturday is a must win to have a realistic chance of getting much done in the league this year barring a huge improvement in play. IUPUI is getting killed by the Kangaroos tonight.
This was a heartbreaker tonight but has any USD team won any close games this year. Another notch in the belt of disappointment.

Boot's didn't come off as very disappointed tonight. He seemed happy with the Yotes play. I thought Dave was into winning and not into moral victories. Didn't seem to the case tonight. A win is a win and a loss is a loss.

I didn't know western Illinois was capable of scoring 70 points. Defense, defense, defense.

I didn't know western Illinois was capable of scoring 70 points. Defense, defense, defense. WIU doesn't score a lot of points because their game is about controlling tempo and playing tough defense. While they don't typically score a lot, they also don't give up a lot of points, so the final score cuts both ways. I'm not going to hang my head after this one. We have a ways to go in the chemistry department, but the individual pieces are an improvement over last season. Automatic entry into the Summit League tournament is a luxury. We need to use the season to further develop chemistry and, hopefully, make a run in the tourney. Simple as that.

Won't make the summit until usd plays defense. They haven't had a decent defense since Cain graduated.
