Gametime in 30 minutes. It's gonna be fun. The Coyotes are going to have to prove that not only can they overcome a revenge hungry SDSU team but also have to overcome a crowd that will be mighty pumped up for the game. Most SDSU people will probably admit under their breath that the Coyotes are catching up fast on the basketball court. If the Yotes can hang tough tonight that will go along ways towards reinforcing that the gap is closing. I don't have a very good feeling about tonight. The Jacks have about 80% of the intangibles in their favor. Last time around the Yotes were intimidated by the Frost atmosphere. They can't let that happen again or the game won't be close.
I think the Jacks will likely have a comfortable lead most of the night before the Yotes narrow the gap towards the end. 82-70 SDSU is my prediction.

36-27 State College at the half.
Generally not too bad of a half by the Yotes. They certainly aren't being intimidated this time around so far. The Jacks got the lead with some very hot outside shooting early. The Yotes hung in there nicely.
I think the big question will be. When Wolters graduates after this year which team will be the better team. I think at this point that question is too close to call. So much of what the Jacks do revolves around Wolters and the defense always has to keep an eye on him at all times. When he is done there is no other player that they have that demands a double team.
If the Yotes can learn to play more consistantly I really like what this team can do next year. With that said the Yotes will be a force in the Summit tourney. Not saying they will win it or even win their first round game but I think it's gonna be one whale of a Summit League Tourney and a great time for USD fans watching two pretty good basketball teams.
The Yotes just have to play it tough on D. The Yotes are proving they can penetrate the Jacks D when they put their mind to drive to the rim.
Lets hope the team can really push this Jacks team and make the Jacks sweat it out, win or lose. Keeping it tight tonight and in Fargo will further help this team make strides.

Jack 48-33 at the under 12 timeout. I understand the size and rebounding advantage that the Jacks have right now. What I don't understand is why the Yotes aren't getting out and running more. They should have an advantage in an uptempo game. That is how you win by being smaller is turning the game more helter skelter. The Yotes just aren't playing with enough energy right now. 6,130 is the attendance.

7:29 to go and the Jacks lead 55-44. The Yotes have not been able to make a serious push to make a real threat but they are not getting lost up there this year either. The Coyotes need to keep pushing the ball and passing it around because the outside shot could still prove big down the stretch if the U can get open looks.

Jack pump it up to 22, now the Yotes have it down to 15 with the ball. The Jacks are getting to the lose balls a bit better than USD. The Yotes just aren't taking advantage of their mismatches as much as the Jacks are taking advantage of their's. Defense is probably the difference in this one as well.

South Dakota 54 State College 67
FINAL
Kind of a ho-hum not too much different than what was expected type of game. The Yotes just could never really threaten in the Jacks stronghold on the game. The defense and rebounding were just not good enough. The Yotes actually shot the ball well but the turnovers and rebounds combined allowed the Jacks to take a ton more shots at the rim.

The Coyotes outscored the Jacks 19-2 off the bench. I am not sure about the 19 but am sure about the 2. That kind of suggests that the Jacks aren't very deep this year. They used to be a very deep team. Get ready for 2013-14.

Defense that held the yotes to score in the 50's was the backbreaker. There were few open shots which took the offensive average down a bit.

As is my habit the next day following a game, I go to SDSU's athletic website and the opponent's website to read about how the story was written up by the respective sports information offices. I cannot find a story on the USD site today (as of 1:00 p.m.) (missed marketing opportunity). For those interested in the post-game press conference interview with Coach Boots and players Boots and Kasperbauer, here's a link to the story on GoJacks.com...video links are just below the picture. www.gojacks.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=15000&ATCLID=206207265Kasperbauer was the talk of a lot of Jacks fans. He's good and USD is fortunate to have him for four years.

I think Kasperbauer is obviously a promising player but I would put about 3 or 4 other Yotes in that same promising category. I like Boss quite a bit as he just has a knack for the game. He is a poor mans Nate Wolters. Myles can get about anywhere on the court he wants to, I just wish he was going to be a Coyote longer. I also like Flack but only if he would bring his game more often. He is too inconsistant but showed glimpses against the Jacks how good of a rim protecter he can be. Robertson has shown promise as well. I think Coyote fans will like the additions that will be coming on board next year as well.
A guy like Kasperbauer sure can open up things inside. His shooting is lethal for sure. Hopefully the Coyotes will show up and give NDSU all they can handle. NDSU is tough defensively but the Coyotes can stay close if they can hit those long threes. I don't expect much to be open on the inside in that game. We really don't know how these teams matchup because the Coyotes never left the lockerroom in Vermillion.
