Honestly, ready to give the State football championships to another town. I'm tired of it disrupting USD football. Vermillion really gets little benefit from hosting those games. Most people drive in for the day, play the game, and leave town. Restaurants may see an uptick in activity but it's not the boom people think it is. The hotels are not full like they are for a multi-day event like basketball or wrestling so the economic impact is not as great as people think. The folks in Rapid City are trying to help you out on this. www.gotmine.com/Expansion-Photos.pdfUse the right/left arrows on your keyboard or the roller on your mouse to scroll through the drawings.

I live in Rapid and I'd be very surprised if the original proposal would survive a public vote. The cost is $150 million and is designed primarily to compete with SF, host larger concerts, etc. Maybe a scaled down version could survive. Will be interesting....

They are. State football finals are November 8-10, so it would be the Montana game affected by that Saturday. The high school championships were on the 10th last year. According to the SDHSAA website the dates for the 2013 championships are Nov 14,15, and 16.

Hard to make any predictions. I definitely believe this team will get 4 or 5 wins this year. We are rebuilding. Most team's have to do this in transition. Even SDSU had to do so. Our first year in the MVC was a measuring stick for what need's to be done. Hopefully there is improvement this next season!

Nothing like playing second fiddle in your own building. The State/U game, or any Coyote game, should take precedence over the high school playoffs. No bumping this game to noon "just to fit it in". Put it in prime time 7PM and play the high school games during the day.

The football championships draw thousands of potential college students/student athletes and their parents to our campus. Some, maybe the majority, are "in and out" of Vermillion, seeing little more than the Dome and its parking lot. But those who do stay fill hotel rooms, shop at local businesses and, hopefully, gain a clearer understanding of what USD has to offer. I hate the idea of our guys playing under card to high school football as much as the next person, especially a State-U game. It would be great to make that the main event and turn the whole Saturday into a spectacle. Why not embrace the championships and capitalize on the captive audience? One last note: Rapid City should host championship high school football like Aberdeen should host downhill skiing competitions.

From some of the messages I have seen on Twitter I think Earv Archambeau must have had a pretty serious injury during practice yesterday. He has been a special teams player mainly throughout his career (5th year at USD after a stellar HS career at Avon). Great young man - hate seeing that happen. (Especially to a senior)
Get well Earv!

Training camp update from Mick Garry. Good information - for the most part, but I believe Ricky Reeves has been dropped for academic issues. mgarryargus.tumblr.com/

I stopped by Saturday's scrimmage for a bit. To my eyes, the redshirt freshman RBs, Roberts and Bouma, look the part. That is, they look like they have the speed and quickness to get through a hole and carry the load. Josh VM looked much more accurate than during the 2012 season, and also like he has improved his quickness (i.e., can make more people miss in addition to excellent straight ahead speed). On the other hand, it looked like #12 Khorey Kilgore sustained a significant injury as he was not putting any weight on one of his legs while being assisted off. Hopefully it wasn't what it looked like..does anyone have more info on this? Like I said, Roberts and Bouma look like they could do the job but the lack of depth at that position is definitely a worry.

Depth at WR took a hit today, Anthony Williams tore his ACL. Looks like Terry will be about our only WR with much experience returning.

Sad news about Williams.
On the good news front, Kenny Greer was successful with his summer classes and is now eligible to begin practice. DL depth will help us as much or more than anything outside of QB and OL improvement.

Coming off of last season's results and how JG is trying to rebuild the program we can't afford any more injuries.
