Well, as we all know as of July 1st Oakland and UMKC are officially leaving for their new conference. This is something that needs to be handled maturely by the conference.
I believe if this conference still want to recieve an automatic bid into and NCAA championship for any sport 1 or 2 more teams definately need to be added to take OU and UMKC's place. Whether they get two teams that are already in division 1, or want to transfer to division 1, I believe the only way the Summit League can stay relevant in sports is to add two high quality schools like Denver. Our best bet? RAID THE WAC! Crazy enough they still ave quality schools in that conference. I understand that the point of the Summit League is to have teams close to home but at this point we are running out of options.
My top 5 teams:
1. Utah State
2. New Mexico State
3. Idaho
4. Northern Colorado
5. CSU Bakersfield
My reasons:
Utah State & NMSU- In my opinion getting USU and NMSU is our best option. Both have quality athletic programs. Why would they come to the Summit? Well, where else do they have to go. Last I checked every conference wa full in division 1 except the Summit. I think if we replaced OU and UMKC with these two teams we would be more relevant than ever before.
Idaho- The "best" third option. Idaho has a tradition of mediocre. In the Summit they would compete very well. I would compare then to Oakland, or ever SDSU. I think Idaho would be an awesome addition.
CSUB and NC- A natural rivalry. The best way to spike up a conference. Not to mention the idea that the WAC is going down and both of these teams will need a home. In my opinion plan Z.
