Looking forward to the game. Does USD video stream the game? What are your thought on the game? Cal Poly's playoffs hopes rides on this one and I am worried. I know USD is tough in the Dome.

You can get a live stream by going to USD's athletic website: www.dakotacast.org/usd/index.htmReally looking forward to seeing your team in person for the first time. Are you guys coming into this game healthy and ready to play your best? I have a feeling USD is going to be cranked up to win at home. What players are studs and worth really watching during the game? Should be a great battle.

Are you guys coming into this game healthy and ready to play your best? I have a feeling USD is going to be cranked up to win at home. What players are studs and worth really watching during the game? Should be a great battle. Our starting QB, Andre Broadous, has sat out the last 2 games. He was injured on the last play of the SUU game. They were shooting for a return next week at USD. Let's hope because he is a real threat running and throwing. Lost one of our starting RBs for the season last week against UND. Our top DB went out in the 2nd quarter this week, but I think he may be ok for next week. Top players on offense are 6'4" 220 Sr WR Dominique Johnson (UCLA transfer), 5'8" 180 Jr RB Mark Rodgers (West Virginia transfer), Jr FB Jake Romanelli and Sr FB Jordan Yocum and So QB Andre Broadous. Top players on defense are Jr DE Gavin Cooper, Sr DT James Chen, Sr LB Marty Mohamed and Jr CB Asa Jackson.

BTW, the University is trying to have all Coyote fans wear white to the game Saturday.
Don't think I have any white Coyote gear - will have to figure something out.

Interested to see which USD team and coaching staff shows up Saturday. The risk taking , ears pinned back, swing for the fences team. Or will we see a timid, playing not to lose style we have witnessed occasionally.
USD won a close game last year against Cal Poly - how about that Coyote Fan...... jk
I see this as being another slug fest. Not sure what to predict in this one in terms of outcome.

Oh this is a tough one. I am still trying to determine if USD was that good or Northern Colorado was that bad. I know the Bears played a very poor game.
Here is how I see it. If Cal Poly comes to the dome and their goal is to run the ball more than pass and try to play a physical game I am absolutely 100% taking USD to win that kind of game. If Poly comes out in a spread offense and passes from it frequently and runs a no huddle offense I think they will win. The best way to beat USD is to make it a game of adjustments.
I may have to do some research on this one before I predict a score. USD will likely not win by less than 7 and Cal Poly will likely not win by more than 7. So it's either going to be a close Poly win or USD by 2 possessions or more. If there is one thing that always seems to hold true it is that rule. So everyone needs to keep that in mind when making picks. Eventually that trend may reverse but I am playing that trend until it is broken. It's been quite some time to my recollection since USD has played back to back weeks at home against worthy opponents.

I am looking forward to three things and they all carry about the same weight in which one I am looking foward to on Saturday. Here is the tail of the tape.
1) The Coyote football team. A team that will give it the good old college try but I think of the three entities might have the least on the line. I think perhaps the towell is being close to being thrown in.
2) The Sound of USD. They have the new entrance of the tubas leading the way followed by the drum core. It's pretty cool and intimidating. I would have to say that Cal Poly has alot to worry about but nothing moreso than the sound of USD. Especially when they play up till and sometimes past the time that the players get set. I am surprised the Sound of USD has not been warned from the officials for playing too far into the play sequence.
3) The big heads. The student section does need some improvement but the big heads are humurous and if I had one wish for next year (maybe evenmoreso than a winning football team) it would be for the students to add more heads. I would like to see about 20 of them over there. I like the Corso friend head (sorry don't know his name) and the Sue from glee head especially when they play that song that gets the heads bobbing up and down and side to side. I am not as big of a fan of the Betty White head. I think she is overrated eventhough she kind of made a comeback thanks to her appearance on SNL.

Wow coyotefan. Those are the three things you're looking forward to? You seriously think the football team is ready to throw in the towel? Where do you come up with this? Come on man! I will give you the band's entrance is good. Have always loved the band's entrance.
Last thing, I think the only thing that would really make you happy with the big heads is if there were about 20 big heads of you floating around the student's section.

I am concerned that the players and coaches will be distracted with all of this conference news excitement. We will get a chance to see how focused this group is. Beating this Cal Poly team will take everything USD has IMO. Really hope USD comes out sharp and takes care of business.
We are third from the bottom in MVFC home attendance - even with limited seating we can do better. Hope we can get some people out and make the Dome a real home field advantage.

I have to agree, I think the players could be distracted sooo...
1. That is my number one key to the game. Move past getting into the MVFC acceptance. They need to keep their eye on the prize and that's finishing above .500 this year. It's this season now and it's not 2012 plain and simple. Don't Dallas Cowboy this and win out USD.
2. USD's rushing defense. To say Cal Poly runs a good amount is an understatement. Cal Poly has rushed the ball 480 times, that's the third most in FCS. Because of that, Cal Poly is averaging 241.7 rushing yards per game, 6th best in the FCS and has 22 rushing touchdowns - 11th best.
USD HAS to find a way to slow down the rushing attack because if they don't, Cal Poly could control the Time of Possession for the game and keep USD's offense off the field, wear down and then get pounded. This is up to the linebackers and the defensive line here to close down the holes and the outside edges. USD has given up 404 yards a game, 21st worst in the FCS.
3. USD's passing offense. The Coyotes are going up against the 10th worst passing defense in the FCS. Cal Poly has given up 246.1 yards per game through the air and 16 passing touchdowns as well, 19th worst in the nation. USD has connected on 17 passing touchdowns, 14th best in the nation.
Plus Cal Poly has one of the best run defenses in the nation, only giving up 115.4 rushing yards a game, 19th in the FCS. So Dante Warren needs to on in his passes in this game, or else it could be a long day for the USD offense. The coaches need to recognize this and try to work the pass into the gameplan more. I would say 60/40 passing to running.
4. USD passing defense. Even though Cal Poly's running attack is its bread and butter, and the Mustangs only have 122.4 pasing yards a game (9th worst) on 17.4 passing attempts (6th fewest), USD has to take away Cal Poly's passing game because it's so efficient. Cal Poly has completed 61.8 percent of its passes, 24th best in the FCS, plus it's helped contribute to Cal Poly's 25th best third down completion percentage at 41.9.
Cal Poly does have some good receivers who transferred in. Plus USD has the 21st worst passing defense at 241 passing yards given up a game (15th worst) and USD's completion percentage it has given up is at 67.9 percent, the WORST in the nation. So USD has to play a tighter passing game, because even if they limit Cal Poly, it sounds like they still might be able to attack in the air.
Right now I have to lean to Cal Poly because USD's defense still has a lot of work to do. Even though they looked good last week, there is a big difference between UNC and Cal Poly.

I was being sarcastic because I doubt I would travel all the way to Vermillion to watch the bigs heads of the band without a game going on. I was also blowing off steam not really being much in an acceptance mode of the conference decision.

I think Yoteforever's prediction is the most accurate one. #1CF spelled out the matchup and this type of game typically goes the way of USD. If Poly continues to run USD will stop it well. If Poly adjusts their gameplan (which they should if they want to win) and puts the ball in the air in a spread type offense I think they win. Poly is vulnerable against the pass.
I do believe that the beggining of the game will be telling. I think USD can win it right out of the blocks if they come out aggressive.
I am going to call this one 23-10 for USD but it totally depends on what kind of an offensive gameplan Cal Poly has and what kind of a tempo the game is played at.

Actually, if I was Cal Poly, I would only adjust the gameplan if USD stops the run. So far against good running teams, USD hasn't been able to stop it, teams just haven't attacked it enough. NDSU is the perfect example of a team doing the same thing over and over to USD with the ground game. Plus USD is without Adam Broders and I know Eric Leon was a stud last week, but this is a whole better opponent right now.
Cal Poly should run the ball until USD can stop it, plain and simple.

Here is the breakdown of the USD defense and the yards given up in games this year.
at Central Florida L 38-7 run 231, pass 241 at Minnesota W 41-38 run 204, pass 258 vs NW Okl State W 48-14 run 99, pass 251 at NDSU L 38-16 run 348, pass 182 vs UND W 27-17 run 116, pass 172 at UC Davis L 17-13 run 34, pass 260 vs UNI L 19-14 run 147, pass 287 at S. Utah L 31-13 run 241, pass 230 vs N. Colorado W 34-6, run 47, pass 288
USD shows a mixed bag but what stands out is that they are definately a better team at home againt the run. Look at the rushing numbers against the run at home 99,116,147,47. Now the road numbers 231,204,348,34,241. UNI was held well below their rushing average and if USD's offense would have been just average the run defense would have been one of the biggest reasons for a win. UNC couldn't run at all and UND wasn't rushing very well either. On the other hand on the road USD's run defense hsa not been nearly as good.
USD is a team that plays better defense at home and it's not the slightest bit surprising. This has always been a trend under Ed. When the defense plays with alot of energy they tend to stop the run well which makes sense. On the other hand when USD's defense is playing flat like many times on the road they will give up alot more yards on the ground due to a lack of energy more than anything else.
The way I look at it, Cal Poly might not be able to move the ball either way. If they try to run the ball as history shows with USD at home they almost certainly won't have much success. UNI was a great running team and got stuffed for the most part. I see Cal Poly having the best chance trying to spead the ball and pass it. If I were the Cal Poly coach I would definately look at the numbers and know that USD is tough against the run at home. They can be stubborn and run against it and probably lose because of it or they can come out in attack mode like they should and try to get off to a good start by getting the Yotes on their heels against the pass. I have seen all too many times USD's opponents try to run the ball in the dome to take the energy out of the building. What ends up happening is that they run into a brick wall and next thing you know it's 3rd and long and the bell starts to ring and the crowd start to frenzy up. That is the exact reason USD has struggled this year because they get too much into try to establish the run up the middle run game and becomes way too predictable.
Cal Poly can win this game but their best chances are to come in to the dome and make the game an adjustment game. One where they are unpredicable, use an attacking style right off the bat before they end up getting behind in the game. You just watch if Cal Poly play conservative in this game we are going to kick their asses. If they play attack style pass first offense I see them having a better chance. Just my opinion tied to the number trends regarding USD's defense.
