We got the win. Lots of mistakes to clean up, but the team is making progress. Petrino had the D playing lights out. Bouma is a stud. Earl is young, but gives the offense a better threat. Special teams has got to get cleaned up! Broken record there.
We are VERY young, which gives me a ton of hope for the rest of the year and the coming years.
Oh yeah, Starr is a beast when healthy.

Yotes get another one! No give up on this team. You can almost make a case for a shut out. The Good Guys are getting better. Will The Red Missile Defense keep us in every game? UNI is next right? Let's give 'em everything we got and see what happens. No way the Yotes get blown out.
Go South Dakota, Go!

There were some obvious mistakes made today. However, after two games, I think Earl keeps us in these games as long as the defense continues to play lights out. Very exciting

DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE. Should probably just end the post there. Wow.
Anyway, as alluded to earlier, you could make an argument we pitched a shutout. 2 more short field drives for TD's- can't blame the D for those. One of the drives was given to Indiana St by the zebras too.
Losing the turnover battle 4-1 and still winning the game- well done Red Missile Defense, AGAIN!
I was thrilled to see only 1 WR screen, that I remember anyway. Of course it was incomplete. Did Earl pass it downfield once in the second half? I know his confidence is rattled after 3 INT's in the endzone in two weeks, but he's our QB and we're going to have to throw downfield again.
I was worried as it was getting closer and closer to 1:00 PM and the stands were not filling up. Student section was half full (at least they stayed past halftime again, mostly). There were a lot of empty seats but those that were there did a nice job of cheering I thought.
The D kept it close until halftime. Starr entered the game and we pitched a shutout in the second half. In addition to another sack, he again drew multiple holding and chop block calls.
The long snapping was pretty good today. Bergner seems inconsistent punting and kicking now, he's probably still scared where the snap is going. Maybe with a couple good weeks of long snaps he'll get back on track.
Today marked the return of the bruise brothers. The best RB on the field today was not named Bell.
We should retain our #1 pass D ranking and hopefully move up in overall D after today as well.
I'm sure others have additional observations- those are just some quick hits. GO YOTES!

Happy for the win. The smh was after the fourth to and blocked fg. Thanks for the clarification. I was probably shaking my head too. Let's go Coyote Nation. Slow but sure things are turning for the positive. Might be time to start jumping on The Yote Train. Here we go Coyotes, here we Go!

The Coyote defense is AMAZING!! Keep it up guys! The offense is more diversified and making strides just needs to reduce penalties and TOs. Special teams just need to be more controlled and consistant. Great overall results for such a young team!! GO YOTES!!!!

Admittedly I have been a skepitic about this team and haven't agreed that they were indeed moving in the right direction. After the last couple of weeks I have changed my mind and become a believer that the compass is indeed pointing north for this football program. By watching the Coyotes I believe they finally have passed the eye test when watching from the stands. Well maybe the Defense has the entire year but the offense is making strides. The only thing holding them back is a little more confidence from Earl on the long range passes but I think that will come in time. Ironically the play calling has seemed to get better as well. I think Earl being under center helps that. As far as the play calling my suggestion would be to keep spreading the defense out, use the pass to setup the run. I would like to see a few more passes being called on first down. In the red zone running the football nearly every time should be the strategy because I can't see a defense stopping this team other than maybe NDSU when running it 3 or 4 times needing 10 yards. The effectiveness passing it into the end zone is a bit sketchy as of yet so break that part of the playbook in very slowly.
On ISU Blues first touchdown drive I couldn't believe the calls that were made to continue that drive. There was a play that the Sycamores ran to the left where there was an obvious offensive hold. The flag came out and the crowd cheered...so what is the call other than a personal foul on USD. At worse USD should have had the hold go in their favor for a no play result. When the score was 14-7 ISU and the turnover ratio was 4-0 in favor of ISU I was thinking if your a Sycamore fan you can't be liking only being ahead by 7 with the game being handed over on a silver platter. An argument can be made that USD dominated the game as the yardage was just under 400 to only 198 for ISU. That is a butt kicking, especially on defense. How can this unit play any better than they have. It now goes beyond the naysayers saying that USD hasn't played a good offense because ISU is better on O than the Coyote D allowed them to play. Starr is just an animal but on the other hand the D also played good without him so that bodes well for the future.
I am as happy as I have been in awhile with what we are getting from this team. They do the nitty gritty things it takes to win games now. Good D, tough running and with a few less mistakes this team has become a mid level MVFC team in a hurry. With the change at quarterback has come a renewed energy for the club.
Now a real test comes, playing well at UNI. The Yotes should be able to make this a good game if the D continues the good play.

We tried telling you to have some patience coyotefan! Glad you see the light now! I think it might be safe to say that this is the best defense that USD has ever fielded. We already had the #1 pass defense by a wide margin coming into the game, and then only allowed 82 to drop the average even more! Down to 105 passing yards allowed per game, next closest is 126. Total defense also went up to #6 in the FCS. Our guys lost the turnover battle 4-1, and without our lights out defense we would have absolutely lost. I am a little worried about Bryant. He got hurt, and when we saw him next he was on the sidelines without any pads on. I hope it isn't serious at all, he's part of this elite defense. Can't tell you how proud I am of the defense. Going up against the top pass offense in the conference, and we held them to 82 yards. 82! Trevor Bouma is going to be all conference soon, and he has a very nice complement in Jordan Roberts. The offense appears to be improving. Lots of missed opportunities for points out there. Though disappointing that we only came away with 17, there is potential there if we clean up the game. Those 4 turnovers really stung me. Four consecutive possessions we gave the ball away. Better teams will make us pay big time for that. If we want to win another game against the murderers row we have coming up, this will not do. Another win for the Coyotes! 3-0 at home, 2-1 in the Valley, two in a row, and tripled our total from last year! Tough road games coming up, but winnable ones if our defense continues its dominance and the offense/special teams limits the mistakes. Really like what I'm seeing Yotes!!!
