Going into the season this was not a game we were supposed to be favored in, not even close, but if we aren't favored in this one then it's dead even. They were picked 2nd in the Valley, we were picked 10th, and we've met in the middle. Winner finishes higher in the standings than the other, regardless of how the final game for both teams plays out. It would be a big statement if we beat our rivals, both head to head and over the course of the full season already, making everyone in South Dakota take notice of what Joe Glenn is building here.

I am really concerned about our team's health right now. Not sure how much Bouma and Roberts have left. We need to be able to move the ball on the ground to help balance our attack. If we become one dimensional it will be a huge disadvantage. IMO this game will come down to which team protects their QB better. I like our defense's chances of holding SDSU's offense to 24 or less. Can the USD offense score more? Cannot have bad turnovers or special teams disasters. Has to be a cleanly played game (few penalties and no turnovers).
Should be a good environment with close to 11k packed into the Dome counting overflow and coyote landing. Certainly there will be a lot of blue - 2k to 3k would not surprise me.
Would love to see Tyler Starr break the all time sack record at USD by taking Sumner down. Zenner will be a threat to go the distance every play - will have to wrap him up and gang tackle.
Really looking forward to this match up. Should be a hard hitting slug fest.

Despite the last two heart breaking loses (just imagine we're just a whisker away from being 6-4) I feel really good about this team and where it's going. Growing up in Vermillion, going to USD and now having kids at Lincoln my blood is red through and through. This game holds a special place in my heart and I can't wait for it to get here. As I mentioned in another thread I hope the Yotes take all of the emotion and frustration of losing the last two game to top 10 teams and uses it as fuel for this game. Don't care if we win or lose to NDSU (at least let's get it closer than last year's score) to me this is our bowl game. Hate State, Juck the Fackrabbits, all of that but this game we must own the house!!

Based on the Sagarin rankings the Jacks are favored by 5. That likely takes our pre-Earl games into consideration, so that doesn't accurately reflect how our team is now. I find it hard to get up for this game anymore than every other home game. I don't even want to associate with the other university, playing them just makes me upset. I envy NDSU, not having to deal with the other in state school while also playing in the premier FCS conference, having their cake and eating it too. Beating them will ease a bit of the discomfort, but the less I ever hear of them the better.

Conference games are always important, but there is more on the line when USD plays NDSU, UNI, and SDSU. NDSU is the gold standard of how to build a football team and using them as a target will make our program better. UNI is also a well run FB program that shares a recruiting footprint. We actually compete with UNI for recruits with them and have a chance of winning some of them (we currently lose every one with NDSU and I dont see that changing in the near future). SDSU has improved its football program since moving to FCS. This game is important because as much as anyone watching the games knows, USD has improved massively since last year. There will be thousands of USD alumni that are disconnected with USD athletics only checking in for the SDSU games or D-Days. Those uninvolved folks need to be reconnected to USD athletics and a win could be a step in the right direction.
Have a lot of respect for Stig and his program. Beating them will be a really good win.
